Rookie No More

No real surprise but Barlow has officially been upgraded onto the senior list. Right where he belongs.

Not a moment too soon!

Its just a pity that only the 'hatstand' is in the running for Rising Star. Now players like Barlow and Morabito have nothing to look forward to.

And de Boer is suffering from shin splints and will miss the first month of the season, according to Ch10.

Sad news on De Boer, assuming Ch 10 isn't talking out its back orifice.

As for Barlow, couldn't be happier. This guy's a complete revelation, having come to us from out of nowhere, and I've got a feeling that come round 6 if not before he'll be a DL favourite. He'll fill the hole that's been left by Matty Carr, while adding something (Carr's detractors might want to use the word 'class' here) to the role. The recruiting staff are to be seriously congratulated.

(Polly, you said to me at half-time in the Melbourne game that Barlow was looking good. I said I thought he'd had a bunch of easy possessions and wasn't all that impressed. You were right and I was wrong.)

My worry for the early part of the season is that I think our backline will be a weak link without Groves, unless the midfield dominates. And I think the midfield is going to be compromised without Palmer. But having Barlow there will surely help to hold the fort until we get Palmer back (hopefully by round 3 at the latest, though I still wouldn't be surprised to see him line up in round 1) and Grover (hopefully no later than round 5).

I don't remember saying that West Coast suck in this post. So let me just say that West Coast suck, because that's really the point of all our conversations.

Barlow = clap, clap, clap, clap....

I wonder if my 30+ votes for him on the Dockerland poll helped Harvs et al make their decision.

No, it wasn't the votes Mercs - it was helped by the fact that none of us gave him the nickname Goomer. For what it's worth, I thought you were right, Wizfan.

I thought the ABC (or was it Ch9) reported that De Boer was elevated as well today - anyone else catch that?

Dunno Polly, but for what it's worth I bumped into Grover today and he was strolling about in shorts with no strapping and a happy face. Whatever that means.

I take it the hip/shoulder wasn't part of the 'bumping into' thing.

It was before I'd coffee'd up, lads. Once I'm java'd, I'm dangerous, but before that I'm just a pussycat.

I'm like a bear with a sore head until I get my coffee, then I'm a pussycat!

Mind you, I do get a little twitchy after the 27th mug!
