Look, McPhee is not ideal when you can have Gary Ablett.
But you can't.
So you got McPhee.
Let's just support him and hope he achieves. Achieving is his job. Supporting is ours.

I thought our job was to crack jokes.
But, OK, if we're here to be serious then let me say in all seriousness that West Coast suck! I hate their blue & yella guts, seriously.
I don't think Jordo's song is a work of the imagination. I think it's the musical equivalent of cinema verite.
'You big bunch of pussies' isn't a throwaway line. It's a scientifically disinterested statement of the truth that ranks with 'what goes up must come down'.
Seriously.
(Prof. Smiley, you got this thread all wrong. Try to get here on time in future.)

Flinchy will have a role to play, with the retirement of sollie that is even more certain. What that role is exactly remains to be seen. I can't imagine it is in the midfield except perhaps in short bursts at the end of a quarter.
McPhee is not a midfielder whatever his aspirations. Compare a Barlow or a Palmer for example - midfielders born. McPhee is just not that kind of player. That the media reported he had been 'promised' a midfield role is highly dubious.
Wing, HB flank, or HF flank for my humble opinion. I also agree with some of the other posts that he is sure to start rd 1, but if not performing the pressure from the rookies could be intense....

I like him on the wing, Goldy. Wouldn't you call the wingmen midfielders?

Is there merit in having Phlinchy in for the centre bounces? He could provide some nice cover and blocks for the smaller faster mids.

Ok you might have me there Merc. Perhaps I should say outside midfielder at best.
Either way with Sollie gone, Grover LTI and Dessie a bit suspect week to week, i dare say he will become a regular. I don't expect him to star but would like to think he can do at least as well as sollie.

He's a better footballer than Solly was.

Most importantly, what Solly provided the team was tackling and good humor. Look at the stats from the last couple of seasons and then tell me why you are putting the two of them in the same boat. I don't get it.
My jury isn't out - but, he can change their verdict when the season starts. Good on the half back flank (replacing 1st Johno) not for carrying, but for his mark/kick - never heard him crack a joke.

I dont get where this Solly/Flinchy comparison has come from.
If i had the choice of one that I wanted to bust open a contest without fear for his life it would be Solly every time.
But if I had to pick a player to give the ball to and make sure they hit the target or had cleaner possession then it would always be Flinchy.
IMHO both player are suited to playing Half back and half forward, but play VERY different roles on those lines.
I wouldnt want flinchy starting in the center square at any point (assuming no injuries and we just need someone!). Having him in there to lay blocks etc. is just robbing ourselves of having players that will actually get the ball.
