Tanking

I'm advised that we played today's game wrongly. And last week's. We should have lost.
The story: scoring cricket for junior, got talking to the team #2 umpire, a mad keen Eagle.
Last week I mentioned that I was going to watch the boys at Subi, and this otherwise mild-mannered schoolteacher nearly choked on his lukewarm decaf and Rich Tea, snorting "why would you, snarf, snarf."
Well today I asked him if he went to Subi last night. The answer: "Not interested in pre-season games - they don't mean anything. In any case, the Eagles tanked because they didn't want to play in Melbourne next week."
Tanked! "Well at least they did that successfully" I quipped. No retort.

Didn't have to. The boys did it for me this afternoon.
Magic moment.

You have to admire their professionalism. Some teams who tank just play a couple of blokes out of position, you send someone for an 'operation' but the Eagles have been really thorough. They've appointed dud coaches, they've lost their best players to drugs and ego and they've recruited to ensure they can be guaranteed of getting top draft picks year in year out.
It's systemic tanking.

That club sucks the big one!
I watched the news buoyed by the effort of our boys. Then felt sick when I saw all the rubbish Glassy....eeeeeeey came out with. I cant stand that line 'its only a pre season game"

If tanking was what the eagles aimed for they did it with flying colours, only loosing by a mere 78 points and risking there big man cox. In my opinion they dig great! cough cough. Also it may be worth reminding the eagles that if you win you get a hefty pay cheque and anyway they might have to play in melbourne for a nab challenge game that sould fix 'em up.

They win a scratchy and Woosha's all over the local media doing 2-page interviews in The West, a 20-min live Q&A on 720 with the closet Toaster who does the Mornings thing ... talking like the finals are a given.
They lose a scratchy ... and it's just a scratchy.

It was a practice game and they practiced getting belted, all over the park.
We had a practice game and practiced winning, away from home.
Its merely a difference in coaching philosophies, that's all.
