With Matty DeBoer developing a core of concrete, a better kicking action and an insatiable hunger for the pill, but languishing on the rookie list, my new scapegoat is BOB. Seriously, next year Matty goes up and if BOB continues to do nada, BOB goes out.
All sounds like a wonderful kids story.

Anyway - Slammen ease up on lil' Schams, he gives us a bit of midfield depth, which is something we're seriously lacking.

Wasn't Myron our leading midfielder in kicking efficiency last year? I'm sure he was at some point late in the season. Been good for us, and still scope for improvement. Could actually be set for a breakout year.

Well I didn't see the game... but my comment on Slammen's remark that Schammer is becoming another Shauny Mac is great. Shaun's disposal wasn't really that bad and he more than made up for it in gutsy play and always giving his utmost in every game.

don't listen to em Slammen. You're ok. .bit yuo mest improov yur grammar and speling

Shauny Macs disposal got better in his later years. Hopefully Schammers will too. He's got a pretty good engine and as such will take on some pretty important roles in the midfield.

Kreepy can't tag three players at once.

I hope we'll see many more years of Schammer's faithful and talented service at the club.

When McPhee came back to the fold much was made of his professionalism in training and preparation and I think Schammer's not too far behind him.

Slammen's entitled to his opinion but you just need to be aware that a player can contribute much more to a team than just through his effective disposal statistics. A good example is JCarr, I think we only had him in the team because of his elite level niggle ability!

Sounds like Byron has an elite level ability to niggle some of the supporters.

Not me, however. I've enjoyed his effort throughout. And last year he actually seemed to have improved - one of the hardest at the ball as I recall. Perhaps not endowed with prodigious skills but more than making up in endeavour.

But it could be just me identifying with the underdog (which could in turn be why I support Freo at all. Freo the eternal underdog).

Or it could just be that you understand the role he plays is not a particluarly easy one and throwing youself head first at people's feet and busting open packs is also a valuable attribute.

These people who bag Schammer will also be the first to complain about how soft we are and how we don't man up when we lose without him.

Schammer and Crowley were on the B team for a very good reason; to test the youngsters against AFL intensity stoppers.

people dont you understand that in order to improve our squad schammer must go. by all means keep him around to train the kids but dont play him unless we run out of quality players like hasleby, crowly, ibbo, palmer, hill, barlow, pearce, deboer, walters and mcphee.
there all better and make less mistakes than schammer.
at 26 he still makes to many mistakes .

Schammer is a better player than you are supporter, maybe you should be the one to go?

Looking at the Champion Data from Freo vs Kangaroos NAB game the other night, they have a column labelled 'critical error'.

We had two guys who officially made 5 'critical errors'.

Namely Ibbotson and Mayne.

Should we delist them too Slammen?

After the North Melbourne game, I reckon Schammer is really worth a go.

Reason - he wins the hard ball. Goes into a pack with kamikaze determination and often wins it out.

Last few years this was the situation where we were bound to turn it over, but not any more. We looked a lot better in tight situations, with loads of support and quick and effective disposal into clear space. North applied a hell of a lot of pressure, and I reckon we'd have buckled heavily last year.

So what are arguably Byron's weaknesses (and I don't rate him as a virtuoso, but neither as any worse than most) - effective kicks and hand passes - will be handled more by his teammates.

Look forward to seeing him in action this weekend.

(In case this post isn't clear, it's a big thumbs up for Byron from me)
