I recently saw a social media post from a bloke last year questioning if there was anyone better than Peak Fyfe at their best. It's an interesting question, albeit ambiguous. I prefer to think of it as a 'who could beat peak (mid-2015) Fyfe in a one-on one if the ball was kicked in their direction'.

Simply no-one in this generation of footballers, although many numpties piped up with Dusty- meh; Dangerfield- no, I think we actually saw that game in Geelong; Gazz jnr- nah, and a ridiculous call of Pendelbury- lol. Pavlich wasn't raised in the comments, but should have been.

Cases were then put forward for Hird, then Gary Snr and Carey, and then to Leigh Matthews. That's an interesting list. Matthews might have beaten Fyfe in a ground ball, but probably not fairly. Having seen peak Ablett Snr I'm going to say he's the only one I would be concerned about in terms of aerial ability, and sheer power over the ball. But if we include the two way running this generation of footballers do, I think Fyfe would have blown him up in the contest over time. Maybe Peak Fyfe is the best we've ever seen winning a contested football either in the air or then following it up on the ground.

One hell of a career, and sad to see the light fade as it inevitably does, cruelled by the sacrifice this game and his uncompromising competitiveness demanded. But that's enough retrospective- onwards to 250 and the team glory that he deserves!

Well said everybody. In his hey-day, he saved us so many times when it was kicked long down the line with the confidence to know that Fyfe would be there to mark it. Invariably he did.

At his peak, he was the best playing going around, could do just about anything (goal kicking wasn’t his strong suit), and he would do the unimaginable. I saw today that the stats show he is the best contested ball player of the last 20 years!
So by my calculations, the GF would be his 250th, so why not?

Should have had three brownlows don't forget. Stupidly rubbed out for a head clash and his votes trailed off.

I will always remember those peak years at his best, if was sublime to watch. I've already been educating younger family members for a few years who follow freo but don't rate him as they are too young to remember 6 years ago.

The player I reckon was closest to him was Koutafides in his brownlow year. But Fyfe played at that level for at least 5 times longer.

I'll never ever forget the 2013 prelim, as a game in general. But I'll always remember Fyfe taking a screamer in front of us on the flank. He was probably best in ground that night and all of the team were dialed in. 27 possies 5 marks 2 goals and set the standard on the first half when freo just owned Sydney.

What a pleasure is been to follow his career.

Dare to dream - 250 games and a premiership in his last game al a Shane Crawford. I wish I was glass half full but unfortunately I've seen too many failures over 30 years to believe in miracles. But I hope I'm wrong.

I don't mind Damian Barrett. Roco also has a good article on us.

I know he has some outspoken views sometimes but this 1 isn't too bad.

I wasn’t sure sincerity was possible from this gob, but even I have to admit I respect this.

Perhaps it is just another bit of the surreality of Fyfe that he can produce this response from a questionable human bean.

Who would have guessed the shouty guy only listens to his own voice...not realising Nat had already covered his last question in the opening spiel.

I felt embarrassed for Nat Fyfe. Such an FFC footy warrior going out in his last home and away game in such an insipid performance by the FFC footy team.

It must have been hard for him watching the first 3 quarters unfold sitting on the side line.

We lacked leadership and we’ve a great leader leaving us.
