Round 19
The End of the HomeNaway

The end of the HomeNaway; well, that was quite a ride. Congratulations to those who have made the 2018 DuFFLe Glenmorangie Finals Series. And for those who have not, you could still take out the 2018 Stones Green Ginger Wine Richmond Cup. Okay, so it isn’t as glorious a win as taking the DuFFLe Premiership but many a champion DuFFLer has lifted this semi-auspicious trophy.

Speaking of 2018, this has been quite a year for me on a personal level. A year of upheaval would be an accurate description and although I won’t elaborate, a few of you know my current state and it isn’t anything that others haven’t worked through. It is no worse or better than many of you have experienced, but it is my turn.

This Monday I fly to Canada for a three week holiday which I probably need. I will be taking my computer with me (see photo above) and will be processing results while away. However, being on the other side of the world I may not meet the normal deadlines, especially in closing off Selection threads. I ask that you all play nicely.

I will be posting up the weekly selection threads early just in case I don’t have the chance to do so while I am overseas. In terms of my return to this sunny West Australian shore, I should be back in the week leading up to Round 23 - just in time for the DuFFLe Grand Final and Richmond Cup Final.

The Glenmorangie Finals Series will be played out in the same way the AFL finals are played - eliminations, qualifying and preliminaries. The Richmond Cup works like this:

Week 1:
* 9 v 18
* 10 v 17
* 11 v 16
* 12 v 15
* 13 v 14

Week 2:
The winner of 9 v 18 goes straight to the Richmond Cup Final.
* Winner of 10 v 17 plays winner of 13 v 14.
* Winner of 11 v 16 plays winner of 12 v 15.

Week 3:
* Previous week’s winners play off.

Week 4:
* Winner of previous week plays the winner of 9 v 18 from Week 1 for the Richmond Cup.

Let us have a look at the results for Round 19… Polly’s Hooley Dooleys fought the brave fight but could not conquer Alvin’s Jedis, and Moptop wound back the years to inflict a minuscule but decisive victory over Blocker’s Willsie Aeroplane. This is not the form Blocker wants to take into the Finals.

There is a bit of a theme in Blocker’s loss as 391's Covfefes lost their finals warm-up to a very much in form Spurrs and although I was delighted with my team’s efforts, Ooslumbird must be worried with two losses in a row; yet the Kaykups hold on to the top spot of the DuFFLe ladder at the end of the HomeNaway. Well done, Oos.

Purple Kit put paid to Cookie’s season with a solid win; Cookie gets his first taste of the Stones Green Ginger Wine Richmond Cup with the Riders. Slammen’s Men staggered into the Finals but The Captain must take on the Richmond Cup with some confidence.

Straddo’s Souls did what they had to do against FD’s Piglets and Nelson had a good win over Joe’s Nobodies. Quite a good first year for you, Joe. The DuFFLe is tough on newbies. But these games met with little consequence when compared to the tussle between MattyT and Bizkit - whoever won secured their spot in the Finals and the loser was relegated to the Richmond Cup. In the end, the Stars did enough. Neither team did particularly well, but the Superstars did less bad and get their chance of lifting the Premiership trophy.

Bizkit
It looks like the Stars will not be making their debut in the Richmond cup with a grudge match Vs Slammo to start off the finals series. Good luck to all and I hope better things are on the horizon for you Merc.

Very interesting that only 1 game seperates 1st from 8th. Anyone could win it this season.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

A very good win Alvin, good on ya - it was stupid of me to take Thomas out of the forward line up.

And Mercs, better pack your snowshoes if you're heading to Canucksville - oh wait! Canada in summer? LUXURY!

So a handball off top spot. Seriously? Stupid Darcy Moore kneeing Jeremy Howe's noggin in the first quarter, that's wots dun it!

Ah well, no harm done, a good matchup with the mighty Oos awaits!
