TOPIC: 2013: Round 18 Selections and Preview

Mercury 2013: Round 18 Selections and Preview 10 years 9 months ago #1

Mercury
As Round 18 commences with Essendon taking on Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium on Friday at 7:50pm, your DuFFLe team must be submitted to this thread by 5:40pm WA time.
Round 18
Heroes to Dethrone Evil Emperors
So often ridiculed and poked with sticks in the past, no-one dares do so now. Hypen has his Heroes firing and they are wreaking havoc from the bottom of the DFFL ladder. Now 391's Emperors are in their sights. The repercussions of the impending loss to the Emperors' evil regime brings smiles to DMan and FD as that last spot in the bottom of the eight is now available.

Bizkit needs to defend his top spot on the ladder against Nelson's Dreamers. The sides are set for the top four and bottom of the eight respectively and it is only a juggling of positions within those frames that a win or loss will bring but the higher position gives you a weaker match-up for the finals. This is not a "don't care" game.

It has been most unfortunate for Davo's Killers to lose form at the pointy-end of the season. A win to DMan's Chevrons is likely to see Davo slip out of the top four. The Killers need a win and although it will be low scoring, I think they can squeak one out this round.

FD's Procrastinators would so like to win this week to lay claim to the last position in the top eight but the mighty Oos stands in the way. Inasmuch as the Killers have lost form, Oos's Purple Caviar is on a winning streak.

In the other matches… PurpleNails will inflict another loss upon Willsie Aeroplane, the Captain will overpower El Primero, Polly's spirited Hooley-Dooleys just don't have the guns to match Slammo, Alvin's Players should be too strong for the Bloody Valentines, and Sandi's Dirty Eyes will grind Derby's Schooners into the snow at the Dome.
  • The Emperors v Hypen's Heroes at Peninsula Palace
  • Sos Superstars v Dreamers at STFUppercut Stadium
  • Willsie Aeroplane v Nail Bags at Blockerdrome
  • The Chevrons v Head Duck Killers at Armidale Park
  • The Procrastinators v Purple Caviar at Eat My Hat Stadium
  • El Primero v Gas Giants at Peptide Park
  • Hooley-Dooleys v Slammen's Men at Pickle Park
  • Bloody Valentines v The Players at Night Garden
  • Dirty Eyes v The Schooners at Snow Dome

I always look forward to my clashes with Davo. For some reason or another we've built up a rivalry over the years. He looks to have the stronger team and deserves to be the hot favourite, but the Chevrons are at home and we're hoping that will give us the edge.

Nelson
I'm currently in the process of revising the DFFL History, which includes updating the high scores board, as per Bizkit's request. Not finished yet, but what I can say is that in all cases where a top score has been achieved over the years and made it onto the top scores list, the team in question gets absolutely flogged the following week - consistently everytime.

So whoever you are playing this week, Bizkit, is probably going to seriously kick your arse.

Don't tell me that Nelson!
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I've got to record these with the DFFL rules so they get published as a reference point each year. Looking forward to your update, Nelson.

Davo
I'm sure those home ground electrons will give you some sort of advantage, although I'm not quite exactly sure what that is. A bit like being White in a chess game?

Whatever the case, you'd better be scoring higher than 96 points this week.
