TOPIC: 2013: Round 17 Selections and Preview

Mercury 2013: Round 17 Selections and Preview 10 years 10 months ago #1

Mercury
The first game for Round 17 commences at 7:50pm on Friday at Eddie's Hat so your teams need to be submitted to this thread by 5:40pm WA time.
Nail Biters With Three To Go
As much as Round 16 had some ho-hum match ups, Round 17 will have the franchisees checking and double-checking their players' stats throughout the weekend.

The round commences with Alvin trying to defeat the powerful please-like-me Men at Cockburn Stadium. Alvin, however, doesn't intend to lie down for Slammo and he's hoping not to make the dreaded list. Unfortunately, come Monday, Alvin will be appended the list.

Davo's Killers had a shock loss last week and find themselves hosting the impressive Superstars at Harper Rose Stadium. Davo sits comfortably in 3rd spot on the ladder and is six points clear of Oos who is just out of the top four. Davo is safe in the four but a win this week would cement the Killers position for the first week of the InsertGoldSponsorsNameHere Final Series.

FD is worried as he's facing the rejuvenated Heroes this week. The Procrastinators are in the scrap for that last spot in the eight and Hypen has found form. A few weeks ago, this game would have been a push-over for the Procrastinators. A few weeks ago.

That last spot in the eight is held by BaliBoy's Chevrons. The Chevrons are heading for a humiliating defeat at Sandi's hands and the Chevrons' chance to play in the InsertGoldSponsorsNameHere Final Series is in doubt.

Oos also has a danger game. The Captain's Giants are capable of defeating anyone and the Purple Caviar are just that type of anyone. I think Oos is in trouble as is Nelson. MattyT has a team that can take down the Dreamers. Luckily for Nelson, he's safe in the eight.

In the other games… Polly's Dooleys will defeat Blocker's Willsie Aeroplane, The Bags will lose to Derby's Schooners and PurpleKit faces a tough fight against 391's Emperors but I think the Nail Bags will fall over the line.
  • The Players v Slammen's Men at CockBurn Stadium
  • Willsie Aeroplane v Hooley-Dooleys at Blockerdrome
  • Head Duck Killers v Sos Superstars at Harper Rose Stadium
  • The Schooners v Nail Bags at The Bar
  • The Procrastinators v Hypen's Heroes at Eat My Hat Stadium
  • Dreamers v El Primero at Waverley Park
  • Purple Caviar v Gas Giants at Coloosium
  • Bloody Valentines v The Emperors at Night Garden
  • Dirty Eyes v The Chevrons at Snow Dome

"The Captain's Giants are capable of defeating anyone"

That's hilarious.

We've only scored over 120, 3 times, and not since Rd 8.
And now Watson's gone to visit Nelson for some, ahem, slimming pills.

This is more accurate:
The Captain's Giants are capable of defeating anyone, so long as they score sweet****all, or they chokelikadavo

I think you're safe as houses eggs, Oos.

Truth is I do like Slammen and the way he goes about things, it adds a bit of interest to the comp.
However despite what he and Hg may think though he is going down this week, the bigger they are the harder they fall.......

I'm in the market for some anti-obesity drugs, oops I meant to say supplements, to help bolster the Procrastinators. Anyone know where I can get some, other than the EFC.

Oos is drinking with Polly this weekend - expect some of my brilliance to give Oos' side a bit of a lift.

Ok I will get in early with the team selection this week to give Slammen time to try to work out how to combat the might of The Players

First up though I have a question regarding naming a player in your team that is only named as an emergency, I just checked the rules and they state that if you believe he will play you have to state your case.
Ben Howlett is the man in question but my only real case is that he has played every game this year and there is no mention of injury, he is the obvious matchup on Callan Ward and I just have a feeling he might come in and lay a heap of tackles.

I originally had him in my side as he has also played every game for the players and has been an automatic selection then double checked the teams and saw he was out.

Edit: Doesn't matter we will rest him up for the finals, happy to go with the revised team.

B: Tom T Lynch, Andrew Mackie.
M: Kieren Jack, Chris Masten, Cory Enright.
F: Josh J Kennedy, Mikey Son Son covering for Pav and Balla this week Walters.
R: Aaron Sandilands.

I: Ben Hudson, Brent Harvey, Jamie Elliot.

Yes The Players do have a couple of WC players but compared to Slammen's mob they are the lesser of two Weevils.

The Gas Giants have received a boost this week with news that a drunken Polly is going to help Oos.

You Beaut!

I have come to loathe AFL coaches/match committee - I trade in Winderlich on Tuesday night who has scored 9,9 & 12 as a fwd for last 3 weeks (as well as 12, 13 & 20 as a back and a 24 as a mid), and has a chance to really rack them up against GWS this week, and lo and behold he's omitted for Soreness. FFS.

Then Adelaide name my 2 long term absent crabs Callinan and Kerridge, but list both on the extended interchange bench. If I could be confident either one of them would get a game I wouldn't have to pick a forward playing against Freo.

They're all messin' with my head.

The Giants hoping to feast on some caviar:

B: McEvoy (StK), Bartel (Gee)
M: McVeigh (Syd), Ward (GWS), Bird (Syd)
F: Pike (Syd), Ellis (Ric)
I: Lucas (Car) Callinan (Ade) Kerridge (Ade)

Freakin' useless: Gaff.

Good luck Oos (with your recovery)
