Okay, less tricks than tips.
For our new players, Draft Night can be bewildering and season-defining. Make some early stuff-ups and you can struggle. So take note of my advice and those of others who contribute; we are offering a helping hand.
The ruck. You need a good ruckman and you need a solid backup ruckman in your squad. You need to ensure that one of your early picks snares a player who wins a good number of hit-outs.
Forwards. These are the cream on top of your squad. If you can score a Buddy Franklin type early, good luck to you. There are not 18 Buddys going around so pick some forwards who reliably hit the goals week-in, week-out. They won't kick a bucketful, but they will keep your score ticking over.
Midfield. This is your engine room for points. It is obvious, pick players who get lots of possessions. But there is some DuFFLe secrets with the midfield. It it often worthwhile playing your favourite midfielder as back, as often a midfield player will lay lots of tackles and take a few marks.
Backs. Remember that backmen score points from tackles and marks. Zac Dawson is a very effective backman in the AFL, but he scores poorly in the DuFFLe as he takes few marks. Unfortunately, fisting the ball away scores nothing in the DuFFLe.
Best of luck everyone.
