Although I am delighted with Dockerland once again giving our lives that wonderful boost, I can’t see the DuFFLe continuing past this season. I’ll give you three reasons.

i) Number of participants. From either 16 or 18 DuFFLers from 2003 to 2020, our numbers have dropped away alarmingly. Notably only twelve last year and twelve this year. And we struggled to get the twelve.

ii) Enthusiasm. The number of times I submit teams for DuFFLers, that haven’t put one in, has increased markedly. It used to be a rare event. Not any more. Two weeks ago I entered five out of twelve teams. And this takes a fair amount of time. The missing team submissions need to be tackled as soon as possible after the deadline. Of course, I could leave the sides unchanged but that then skews the results and makes climbing the premiership ladder more dependent upon who competed against missing DuFFLers. It especially affects the results during bye rounds. Leave a side unchanged and they can score next to nothing.

iii) The presence Dockerland. Our beloved Dockerland has lost so many contributors over the past twelve months or so due to the outages. I hope that the site remains active and its patronage grows. I do think, however, that this is unlikely.

I’d like to see us finish off the season with enthusiasm, but then wave bye-bye to the DuFFLe. A farewell at a Freo pub would seem appropriate following the DuFFLe Grand Final. Perhaps we can score that small meeting room again in the Sail & Anchor?

Well firstly you make very good points Merc but it certainly would be a shame to see it disappear. Maybe we can put up a couple of posts on the main chat to encourage people to get back in to it next season ...?, though, as you say, the numbers there are dropping off too. Perhaps we could also put up some posts on other Docker chat sites...?
But I guess it's a bit unfair of the rest of us to want it to continue whilst you do all the hard work.
Regardless.... I'm all for a pub catch-up...! :-)

If we have unbridled enthusiasm for the DuFFLe and Dockerland stays active I'd reconsider. But we are a shadow of past years.

Without a huge buy-in, I'm out.

I do have mates I can get involved who are not a part of the site but I've been hesitant in the past. If we really need numbers, I'm sure I can get more but obviously, dockerlanders are what we are after.

Personally, I love the DuFFLe and I've grown up competing with so many of you, having a laugh and a beer when we can. I would hate to see it disappear. It's certainly something we need to consider and hopefully, find ways to keep it and dockerland alive.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

All good things have to end eventually, and the last couple of years has been tough with losing some stalwarts and with the parent site Dockerland declining overall.

Can something similar or better be maintained or formed in the age of social media and megaforums, I'm not sure.

I would personally like the Duffle to continue as long as it can, but it only works if we have 16-18 committed teams to keep it going.

Mate, 90% of this rides with you. If you're not getting enjoyment, then anything we cobble together in your absence would be a pale imitation indeed, and maybe we should let it ride. Not putting any pressure at all on though. You are and have been a Giant amongst net-based AFL fantasy administrators.

I'd like to get my percentage to 65.2% before the pin gets pulled though ;).

Also- We the collective DFFL community could be more interactive than we are though. For sure.

P.S I was 2 of those 5 recalcitrant posters on that day, it was a once off for us and I'm sorry. Thursday start went unrecognised, and work drama from memory- plus discord posting from phone bleh.

This is a tough one isn’t it.
I’d like to see it continue but it’s not me doing the work to process results, trades, stats and run the draft.
Sometimes the energy just runs out.

Maybe a simple fantasy league on one of the pro sites can see some of us continue the friendly rivalry without Hg doing all the work.
I just wanna beat Slammo in the DuFFLe

Thanks, Matty. That might be the best course of action.

Currently, what worries me is the enthusiasm from Dockerlanders. Two aspects to this: the number wanting to play and those who play maintaining their enthusiasm.

We do not have a quorum of enthusiastic DuFFLe player for this to continue.

But... I am happy for you to prove me wrong.

I totally love playing DuFFLe and, secretly, Boss Hogg does too.

Unfortunately, neither of us are tech savvy.

If there’s someone here or who knows of someone who can set up and maintain a website based on this DuFFLe drop down page then BH and I would be more than happy to contribute to any cost involved.

I know the annual fee for hosting a website is nominal but maintaining it is another matter.

Dockerland would possibly be lost if Shane isn’t able to continue. However, another possibility is for him to sell the domain to Dufflers/Dockerlanders…

Several possibilities… but we e been riding this free wave for many years :)

FD, I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but if you take the DuFFLe away from Dockerland it is doomed. In the DuFFLe, players drop off and are replaced by others from Dockerland. Constrain it to an external site and your don't have the population to draw upon to play the game.

I certainly do have the technical know-how to manage just a site, but it just isn't sustainable. The only way for the DuFFLe to continue is through a flourishing Dockerland. I can't see Dockerland flourishing; can you? Just look at the last time the site's opening pages were updated. I think Shane's front page articles are three years old now.

Sorry. I guess I am being a Debbie Downer.

I think the only way DL can continue is for somebody who has some contact with Shane, to approach him/her/it and propose to purchase the site from that person or bot.
This will be a cost and maybe a small annual fee can be levied on the members to cover the running and maintaining the site.
Things that would be required would include but not limited to, the cost of:
- Domain Registration
- Hosting
- Upkeep
- Site maintenance
- Security
- etc.

Don't for get "Legal" in your list Colonel. Ownership of a chat-site is a huge personal, financial risk.

Is there room in the world for a new Fremantle supporters site? I don't think being a messageboard is enough, and done properly, I doubt it's a one person job. Things like consolidating Freo related content, game reviews and other shenanigans is what helps pull an online community together, creating that pool of duffle contenders that is needed to keep the show on the road!

There is a new generation of eloquent voices and supporters that I'm sure would enjoy a space thats not bigfooty/facebook which seem to be dominated by trolls and the moronic masses.
