When I watch a non Dockers game (i.e. as an unbiased supporter) I reckon they get most decisions right. And the contentious ones are often argued about by the ‘experts’ commentating on the game who watch the replay in slo mo and still can’t agree.

So it’s a tough game to umpire and, I know I’m asking for backlash here !, but I reckon overall they do a pretty good job given the ambiguous rules they are required to interpret (holding the ball, push in the back etc etc)

They do an excellent job most of the time. Blowing the whistle for every mark. Yelling "Stand!". Then calling "Play on". I'd be at full stretch just managing to do that, let alone all the throw ups and tricky decisions.

I slam the umps at the game - it is part of the sport. "Umpire! He had 3 hours to get rid of it. Just how much longer were you going to give him?" etc etc.

Every now and then they overstep the mark - like 2015 prelim where they had one just hovering, waiting for any chance to give a free against Ballas. Or the 2013 gf where they decided to give Buddy a 50m penalty because Luke might have cribbed a centimetre on the mark (or not).

But mostly they do a great job.
