TOPIC: Hambling

Sadly Brodie isn’t kicking goals either. BTW I think I read that Draper has played forward so when Cox comes back it’s an option although we need experience up forward as plenty of young ones showing will be good - Amiss, Treacy, Voss, deLean

Gumnut, we’ve had success going the other way. We’ve made key forwards into AA key defenders, both Tarrant & Cox done well going back.

Still the biggest problem we have with our forward line is not those in it, but more so with how the ball goes into it.

Hawkins, Cameron or Curnow wouldn’t be as successful in our forward line as they are in their current forward line. I know there were potentially other mitigating issues while he was here, but Hogan is a good example of this.

PS, the biggest issue is the way our forwards are umpired, compared to other teams.

That is definitely not the biggest issue.

Interesting point you make there Shady, about the delivery of ball into the forward 50 and it's that which I find Liam Baker a prospect who could help us. Since all the talk about his likely coming to us in the trade period I've made a point of watching some of Richmond's games. They are hopelessly undermanned at the moment and their better players like Bolton, Martin and Baker are singled out and nullified by opposition teams but what I noticed about Baker was his ball use when he does get the ball is usually quite effective and he frequently pinpoints a forward on a lead or sets up a good scoring opportunity. This is is one area where our current group are generally useless except for the occasional effort. Now I'm not suggesting we pay overs for him but I think one of our first round picks plus a 3rd or 4th rounder might get the job done and he does offer quite a bit of upside. One scribe I read today claims that we've already got a 5 year deal on the table for him so I suggest we get used to the idea that he may be in Purple next year, like it or not. I just hope that the salary is not too much as Young, Serong, Brayshaw, Darcy and a few others warrant higher payments than him.

What is the key area we need bolstering in? I don't think it's the midfield. We desperately need a crafty small forward, so if it came to making offers to players I would like to think that Jesse Motlop is well and truly on our radar.
Plus Baker's preference is apparently Meth Coast.
