I watched the Geelong game and then the Bulldogs. It seems those two coaches value scoring as much as defence. I know we dominated last night but it felt like every time Bulldogs went in they scored.

You know up the field players have an obligation to present the ball carrier with disposal options. Geelong and Bulldogs seem to value this in the forward line.

And these blind kicks out of defence......

I am glad we won. We didn't play well though. Fyfe did.

Freo played far better footy all night. The dogs were only in it at HT cause they kicked 7/2 and we let them walk out of defense all through Q2. I thought that was an easy fix and there's no way they'll keep scoring that accurately. Lo and behold their next 9 scoring shots netted one goal, and we finally started locking the ball into 50 in the last qtr. game over.

Nice to see they're weren't many melt downs after last week. We have a great young team. They are going to have off days. Hopefully that loss we'll inspire the next 10 derby wins.

I don't think enough people here are recognising how under sized we were in defence, especially after Draper went off. We had guys like Banfield and O'Meara manning up on giants at times and we need to give them credit instead of finding fault. Take the win with a bit of grace and recognise what a great team effort last night's win was. I really doubt if anyone deserves to lose their spot after that effort.

Does anyone in the world understand the protected area encroachment rules? Including the adjudicators?

One to Freo and one to Footscray were paid when the umpire told the player to get out of the area, they turned and ran away from the man on the mark and were penalised as soon as they moved.

It's just weird.

But we need more mongrel we are too nice. Our hardest player is Ryan. Treacy crashes packs but he isn’t a mongrel. He Darcy need to assert physical dominance on the opposition make yh think twice before they go for the ball. Maybe we need Ron Boucher or Ryan Crowley or Dean Solomon as a physicality coach

agree mushy, it's clear as mud and often results in a shot on goal. they give away these 50m for very technical infractions that have no influenceon the flow of the game.

meanwhile they don't give 50 when our guys are obviously tackled or harassed after taking a mark.

Players need to come up to the mark and stand, or get outside the protected area. Players started coming up to the mark then running back outside of the area, which undermined the whole stand rule. The AFL was very clear last year that they’d pay 50m if players did both.

I think it was Walker who ran right up to the mark, then ran out again. It was silly and 50m all day long and I think cost a goal.
