Not a bad roost Noddy for a 12 year old.

For those who grew up with the metric system, that’s nearly 45mt (thanks Google).

Maurice Rioli launched plenty of torps through the big sticks after bursting through the middle at Freo oval.

Colin Tully played for Claremont in the late 60s and early 70s and he too could bomb torps from the centre into the goal-square. The only blight was that his VFL career was with Collingwood.

Torpedoes and dropkicks, reminds me of kicking a footy with dad. Don't recall any dropkicks in games, but a few Torpy's kicked.

Dad's lace up boots with the nailed on aluminium studs, parked in the cupboard.

I even ran the screw in aluminum studs for a while along with the hard plastic screw in studs that normally wore down to the metal screws holding them in.

Still think we need more big torpedoes rather than long dop punts down the line.

I fondly remember some of Tully's efforts for Claremont as his bombs were frequently in the order of 70 to 80 metres and is credited with having kicked a drop kick goal from the centre of the MCG while playing for Collingwood that travelled between 78 and 86 metres

Fond memories of David Hollins bursting out of the centre at East Fremantle Oval nailing 50 mtr drop kick goals. And Fred Lewis wheeling round onto his right bombing droppy goals from CHF.

Those Hollins goals were things of beauty, even though each one was a dagger through my heart.

Given how many players can’t kick a drop punt straight, the likelihood of a torpedo comeback is low. I’ve a cheap $ rate for lessons! :)

I think the last drop kick in the AFL was probably Darren Kowal, I think, in his last game for Melbourne.

Brayshaw kicked a drop kick against the Dogs on the weekend and the umpire called him for holding the ball, the drop kick is dead.

Similarly, the torp is an incredibly low percentage play and dead too. It's very difficult to kick accurately, almost impossible to hit a lead with and it probably resigned to only being viable when bombing long for distance. Even then, there are probably better options. When it comes to the other side of a torp, they are also incredibly difficult to mark.

These days there are rarely occasions where a torpedo would be useful and almost none where it's the best option.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Tactically ….there are 30 players in your defensive 50m area, how can the game get any uglier, you’ve a designated kicker in defence who can roost the leather egg 60m to the wing where Cooper Simpson is tending grass, who is going to catch him? It’d never catch on, but I’d like to see it or a super goal from outside the fiddy 50m mark.

Brayshaw and Lloyd have different interpretations of the rule applied.
