Surely we can make a fwd out of Brodie... He can run into the midfield... gather his own ball... handball it to himself on the outside... burn all comers off on his way to booting a major.

Agree we need some more goals from the midfield…I bet Serong was spewing he missed the snap late in the game.

Credit to Brayshaw for scoring excellent late goals in the last two games. More please Andy.

I reckon Young will start to bob up soon with some long range goals as the season wears on.

And I reckon it’s time to see what this Simpson fellow can do. Sonny and Switta appear to need a rest.

Just on Raz, I'm not sure the people calling for him to be dropped understand what his issue is.

He hasn't played many AFL games with the vast majority of those as the sub. As a result, he hasn't adjusted to the speed of AFL football or possess the awareness in traffic. That is the same for all young players, they need time in the top side to adjust and acclimatise to AFL football. They need to build and develop those skills and awareness, build the confidence to get the ball and know they will do the right things with it.

Raz being played in the WAFl where he dominates and has plenty of time and space does him no favours, it teaches him bad habits that don't correlate to AFL football and are more difficult to unlearn as time goes on.

This is why I was against trading for O'Meara and saw no value in him. He basically robs Raz of his opportunity to learn and develop as a player while offering no more than Raz was likely to. However, JOM has a very finite life at AFL level, probably only a couple of decent years before retirement while Raz has his whole career ahead of him. It makes no sense selecting JOM ahead of him. Raz needs to be starting games and learning, otherwise you may as well write him off and get rid of him.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

So Biz, do you think there's still a role for Jaeger as a sub? I thought he's actually been quite good coming on as an experienced head and supplying some stability in the closing stages of games. I agree Erasmus should be starting games and probably should come in for Johnson who I think is going to be a star but has been turning the ball over a lot in recent weeks. It's also a problem for Will Brodie because I think he is in direct competition with Johnno, Raz and Jaeger. The other player who comes into the Sub debate has to be Sonny Walters who after having some great early games has looked to be tired and worn out in the last couple of games. This looks like he may also be suited to a sub position where he can be used as an impact player

Agree, but not so sure about the Johnson is going to be a star line. Hope I'm wrong though.

I didn't think JOM had done much as a sub to be honest. I barely noticed his impact coming on which is not to say that he was bad, only that what he was doing didn't spark anything for us. The better subs tend to be impact players who have a bit of pace and power, those who can be damaging. That's not really JOM who tends to be a bit more of an accumulator who does the basics. With Fyfe, Serong, Young and Brayshaw in the side, he's not coming on and being the extractor in the middle so he probably isn't the best use of the sub role.

Watching Brodie at Peel, he isn't getting a game unless our other inside midfielders all get injured. He's down a long pecking order of players who want to attend centre bounces and extract the ball. I'd probably have him ahead of JOM but that's it. Fyfe and Serong have that role pretty locked down with Young also heading in there and Johnson wanting a shot at it too. Then Raz is the next option I'd take for the role while they try and balance Brayshaw as more of an outside midfielder/winger for the moment. Our inside midfield depth is very good.

Some player development seems poor and misguided. Sturt has or had potential to be like Fritsch or Gunston, but hasn’t been given a good run of games or forward line to operate in.

I had high hopes for Sturt, but alas, it looks like it ain’t gonna happen.

I don’t know enough to judge the coaching staff for failing to develop him properly.

I feel for all the players blessed with talent but unable to forge a successful career.

Particularly Anthony Morabito.

And all the others…

Once back fully fit, Sturt will still struggle to get a spot. He just doesn't have the speed/defensive skill combination that JL wants from a tall small forward or 3rd/4th tall.

KM, maybe he could have a crack at the small tall forward spot.

He's actually just been rated number 3 winger in the comp so far this season according to Champion Data announced today via SEN, so we've obviously all got it wrong
