Hard call. My guess is that he has multiple ligamentous injuries. They are waiting for the swelling to subside so a clinical assessment of the stability of the knee can be made. If it is stable then a physiotherapist driven rehabilitation program will be pursued. Maybe six weeks.
If the knee is not stable then they will look at surgical repair followed by rehab. Probably most if not the whole season.
I suspect he has ruptured his posterior cruciate ligament but my ability to diagnose based on the video is not as good as I wish it was.
But I might be completely wrong.

Cheers Tragic, it looked very PCL-like and I'm sure that's in the mix. If the ACL came adrift as well, rather than a tear, is that a surgically 'simple' fix and recovery as such, on the timeline you have indicated?

With a significant ACL injury, in an elite athlete, they usually commit to reconstruction from the get go. The might wait for collateral ligaments to heal and swelling to resolve before surgery but the decision to operate is made based on the MRI diagnosis irrespective of clinical findings.

Sounds like a ruptured posterior cruciate and a partial rupture of the anterior cruciate. Sounds like they need to visualise the ACL to determine its integrity.
