I) What oversight does the AFL have on this separate drug testing?
II) Are the test results reported anywhere or is it just written off to doctor/patient privilege and not reported to the AFL let alone a higher body?
III) If the secret drug testing results are provided to the AFL, who is then scrutinising the AFL in ensuring they are doing the right things with those results and not just hiding everything from everyone?
IV) How do you know illicit drugs are all that's being picked up?
V) Are the AFL required to report performance enhancing drugs if they are picked up to WADA?
VI) How much do you trust the boys club of the AFL to be performing any of this policy correctly?!
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

The AFL are fully aware of this hiding of drugtaking players!
A former WC president told me that he received a letter in the late 2000's that was accidently sent to all club presidents with 15 names on it of players that had failed multiple secret drug tests with two in particular from Hawks and Swans (one a FF and the other a dual Brownlow medalist) on 6th and 7th strikes and were taking regular injury holidays as a result. The first who moved to the Swans had a protracted injury sometime after 2016 that Whateley sneakily referred to last night as we all knew what was happening here.
The former club president said he would deny if and said what he told me and my brother but it was all about brand protection on the east coast and driven by Andrew G!

you've gone to great lengths to "hide" players identities there, Remy

Can someone answer me this? The AFL had the three strikes thing and in parallel had this testing regime going.

If you failed a test was it a strike?

Seems not. Which totally undermines them. Imagine being James Hird right now.

If this regime was used to avoid being tested for performance enhancing drugs, then it is terrible. But if it is being used so that players with trace amounts of recreational drugs don't get a WADA imposed 2 year ban, then I'm fine with it.

They invented a thing called the 'medical model'.
Anyone likely to strike thrice was added to the program which avoided any such striking. Currently 100 players in the program according to media. Truth*.

Huh?! What happened to 'a handfull of players'? How much do they think you can fit in a hand?! That is a stupidly large number of players being tested to avoid WADA picking up on players drug use.

That would involve at least 3 litres or 5 Gatorade bottles full of urine a week.

and if you used disposable beer cups for it all, you're looking at about a 4m long cup snake at the end of the year.

I don’t pretend to know all the rules that govern drug use in the AFL. I find it confusing and I’m quite lazy when it comes to doing my research.

But in principle, I don’t want anyone taking an unfair advantage by secretly using performance enhancement drugs. If anyone is doing this I hope they get caught and rubbed out.

That said, ‘party drugs’ are not performance enhancing. I know some people will disagree, but they’re wrong. On the contrary, using ‘party drugs’ will interfere with and almost certainly undermine preparation, and therefore performance.

If I’m an AFL player that ‘gets on it’ from time to time, then I’d definitely be testing myself to reduce the chances of getting busted.

I might even have a conversation with the club doctor about my situation, which I’d expect to be subject to doctor/patient privilege.

If my footy club found out about my ‘party drug’ use, then I’d expect them to talk to me about the possible consequences of my actions, and offer me professional support and guidance. I wouldn’t be surprised if my club managed my availability and came up with a cover story should I take some ‘party drugs’ at a bad time i.e.: when I might get busted by doping officials.

I also shouldn’t be surprised if my club gets fed up with me stuffing them and others around if I can’t rein in my mis-adventurous tendencies, and give me the arse as a result!

Anyway, I think lumping ‘party drugs’ in with performance enhancing drugs is dumb, and creates an extremely difficult problem for the AFL and other sporting bodies.
