Any team that stops, props, waits and lobs the ball forward is going to get clobbered. AFL footy is no longer about side-to-side at half back to set up the play. One stationary target out wide and you are blown away. Note to Freo, don’t do it.

The concept of an opening half round may be a complete dud, but we should still be fully supportive of any idea that forces Collingwood to play an actual, proper away game.

I hear you Eggy, but this 'opening round' bizo potentially puts teams at an advantage / disadvantage over others that we won't see materialize until further into the season. Round 1 will be interesting, will fresh teams prevail over those that played in the 'opening round' ?

The competition is already an uneven playing field. Throwing this thing into the mix, presumably as a response to something the NRL did, is just chasing ratings at the cost of integrity. None of which is surprising from the AFL, just pointing out the latest example.

Not to mention the ladder won't be a quick and ready read of how teams are going ... given some teams have played (and won) one more game than others.

And what has all this silliness actually given us? More market share in NSW and Queensland?

Mushy is absolutely right, and it won't matter whos out injured, ...if J-Lo fronts up with the "stop - start "game plan off half back , like he had last year, or, has shown in the practice games.... well , ..we are toast...!!

Can we just have a Dockers team that ''goes down the corridor', and takes on the 'other lot' ( whoever that is )...???

Yes, short Opening Round is stupid, but one thing could make it less stupid. If those 8 teams played against each other in Round 1, there would be no questions about advantage/disadvantage.

Agree Kidmaple. Of the 8 teams that played last week, 4 of them are playing each other and then 4 of them are playing teams who haven’t had a run yet.
Of the 10 teams that didn’t play last week, 6 of these will play each other and 4 have to go up against a team that has already blown the cobwebs out.

No need to guess where we sit - shafted be the Awful again.
