I like the look of Reidy in the WAFL last year, six games with 30 hit outs and 43 against the Sharks in one game, and showed promise in the Port pre season game with 10 hit outs, Zoldo and Sweet for Port only got 21 between them. He shows plenty of footy smarts , and moves well. It’s a big ask against Brisbane in Rd 1 but exciting for him if he gets picked.

Reidy doesn't win enough hit outs let alone to advantage to get in the side just for that. He very much looked slow and had little impact once the ball hit the ground while he didn't appear to be much of a marking target either. I don't think he's up to standard and would have Jackson with a chop out from Treacy in preference.

The way we structured up at the end of 2023 is probably the way to go.

So if we let Treacy provide the ruck backup for Jacko while he rests forward to create a forward option do we then bring in another tall up forward to make up numbers. Tabs or Voss, on pre season form Voss really deserves a shot and the amount of leads he was giving would make him a perfect foil for Amiss and a resting Jackson to create a bit of havoc up front. The big thing then would be for our midfielders to work their butts off when Treacy is rucking as they would more than likely have to rove to a losing ruck while he is there. I think we are still capable of winning without Darcy but it would require the whole team to buy in and play to their absolute best.

Personally, I think Voss has proven over the pre-season that he's gone past Tabs and is the next in line to get a forward opportunity partnering Amiss and the resting ruck. However I think Tabs will get the first shot given his career body of work and seniority.

Reidy has huge potential, well ahead of Treacy, I'd be giving him a couple of games as a ruck combo with Jackson to see how he goes. I just don't see the value in using Treacy as a ruck option for us.

I'm not sure what potential Reidy has shown because he did little in the pre-season games. Against the OOFTIT's who had effectively no ruck, Reidy still struggled to win a tap or get it to advantage while providing no follow up. Against Port he had more of a go and did even less, this time against one of the lesser ruckman in the AFL who is adjusting to leading the ruck. Again he struggled for taps and influence throughout, becoming a complete liability once the ball hits the ground.

Treacy on the other hand offers FAR more in the 70% of the time the back up ruckman is supposed to be sitting up forward and not rucking. In the 30% of game time Treacy or Reidy are in the ruck, Treacy has about as much influence with a tap as Reidy and then FAR more once the ball hits the ground and running through the midfield.

It seems a pretty straight forward selection. Not to mention Treacy is 2 years younger and learning the forward position which is where either one will spend most of their time while Riedy turns 24 in a few months and should be at the peak of his powers without much further improvement in him.

Liked Reidy at Peel last year however when he came on against Port we didn't even score that quarter. then the mids started reading off their ruck. Not so sure he is ready yet.
