I’ve been on the fence with this guy for several years, just waiting for him to find his gears. Waiting for his game to click into place and for him to take the next step up.
It hasn’t happened. He looks like a first gamer out there, lost in his direction, decision making and quite unprepared for any contact.
Even in the pre season Slime game.
I’ll be pretty cranky if he gets a game this year.

Trouble is with Cox and Chappie out and Young going mid, and Walker not having much of a pre season, our big man depth doesn’t look too good down back. I guess that’s why we got McDonald. Draper still young and inexperienced yet. I feel that’s our weak link. Hope I’m wrong.

He's a rookie listed player. Tough as nails and in our top 30 players. I think he's great, but yes when he's in the side its evidence our best 22 is not out there in full.

We all know that Ethan is not a star. And he's not going to look great when he's part of a disorganised defence. But he's a great player to have come into a well drilled unit and play his part. I'd hope he doesn't get a game this season - because that would mean we are injury free - but we won't be injury free, so he'll get a run.

Ethan is a good size, has good courage and can be quite effective defensively. And he plays in purple. So he’s all right in my eyes.
The problem is he seems to lack any sense of daring or momentum when he takes possession from a mark or free kick. Invariably he stops, goes back stands stock still and ponders what he can do next. I’ve seen oppositions take the opportunity to make multiple interchanges while Ethan thinks. I swear John Longmire once came onto the field with a whiteboard assuming it was quarter time while Ethan gave his next move some thought.
It’s a worry.

I’ve always liked Ethan because he actually follows his man, spoils, goes back with the flight when needed and can actually stick a tackle. He’s old school like that. He’s is to medium defenders what Zac Dawson was to tall defenders: useful if you don’t have anyone better or you’ve got a bunch of defenders who don’t know how to defend (which is true for Freo from time to time).

I always stuck up for Dawson and I’ll do the same for Hughes, but in both cases they are a bit of a disaster with ball in hand. Clive knows why Jlo thought Hughes could be a winger.

Ethan was looking good until he did his shoulder when he bumped a slime player a few years back , it took a while to recover and he has not quite got his aggro back since ? he was showing some good progression till then .
