TOPIC: Train on Players

So, with the deadline looming how many, if any at all do we pick up. And who do we like?
Personally I'd go for Patrick Voss, who did really well in our last Intra club match, and Sam van Rooyen. Both are big, physical guys with a bit of versatility about them. Plus with Sam we may even attract big bother Jacob in the future to play together. Beattie seems like just another small forward who we already have a lot of and poor old Dan McKenzie can't seem to get on the track with recurring injuries, not what we need and we already have quite a few wing options on our list

Patrick Voss is a definite.

We do have plenty of options on the wing , just not sure any of them are that good.

Jeremy can certainly cover the ground but his disposal is atrocious, so unless he tidies that part of his game he will not be getting a game.

As for dizzy , had that great stretch of 8 or so games 2 years ago where he looked like anything. But has been horribly disappointing since than.

Voss is the only one who's impressed and we need some key position depth, the others have been injured or well off the pace. You'd just grab Voss and hold a spot open for the mid-season draft with either someone popping up then if needed or one of the players on the LTI able to come back into the fold.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Just wondering, is there any restriction on who can be picked up in Mid Season draft? Can it be someone who we've had as a train on player or do they have to have been registered for a previous draft?

As far as I'm aware, they just need to have nominated for the draft in prior seasons.

Thanks for clearing that up Biz, I had just wondered if we overlooked young Sam at this stage and then he developed further with Claremont in the ressies or WAFL League we could then pick him up in the mid season draft. I must admit when I watched the colts GF it did seem that others in the Tigers lineup had gone past him especially Dan Curtin and Zane Zakasteltzky and he probably needs longer to develop

For mine, young Van Rooyen has never really impressed me and always looked far inferior to his brother, a very different style of key forward. He isn't as filled out or intimidating as Jacob and plays on the lighter side. On the glimpses I've seen from him training with Freo and from what I've heard, he's very much a development player and someone who won't be near an AFL standard for quite a long time. That sort of project is best left to develop in the WAFL and if he works out, drafted in a few years time.

Thanks Biz, I think you're spot on with your assessment of young Sam. He's definitely behind where Jacob was at the same age. A pity we couldn't have gotten Zakasteltzky in the draft. I think there may be some good talent available in mid season draft as some of those who missed out develop further in the WAFL seniors this season
