Ignoring all the recent talk about academy access, I’m just seeking some clarification about the father son rule. While I really like the concept I don’t fully understand how it works, in particular for new teams.
Recent history shows the importance of FS access (eg Moore and Daicosx2).
From memory, when Freo were established we got some half baked FS concessions that took into account WAFL games played. We got bugger all from it then or since (according to wiki just Brett Peake. I thoughtClem Michael may have also been on the list but he must have been a straight pick

As I understand it, its current structure requires fathers to have played 100 AFL games for the same club to be eligible.
Even at this stage, Freo would have few opportunities given that it has had very few players in its short history to have played the required number of games (before you even consider the age and talent of their progeny). Clubs like GWS and GC would have zero options given the need to wait at least 18 years before any offspring are eligible. By comparison, word is that Geelong have a bumper crop on the way (must be something in the water down there)
Recent history suggests that recently successful clubs like Western Bulldogs (Liberatore, Croft, Darcy), Geelong ((Hawkins), Collingwood (as mentioned) and Brisbane (Ashcroft, Fletcher) have benefited greatly from picking up a couple of cheap high end talents which have, or will, keep them ahead of the pack.
What concessions, if any, are made for expansion clubs as they seem to be missing out on this loophole?
