I don’t think they’d actually line up like this, but would love to see us start the first centre bounce with a massive group in the centre Square. Then when the kids are getting tired, we sub Fyfe into the game half way through the 3rd.

B: Luke Ryan, Alex Pearce, Brandon Walker
HB: Jordan Clark, Brennan Cox, Heath Chapman
C:Jeremy Sharp, Matt Johnson, Nathan O’Driscoll
HF: Michael Frederick, Josh Treacy, Sam Sturt

Blocker, I’m yet to be convinced by Sam Sturt (although he did show some improvement late last season). I’m more in favour of giving Emmett that role. Based on a very small sample size, he provides the pressure that we will miss post Schultz.

WTB, that's fair, and to be honest Emmett and Brodie are two I would like to jam into the side, but it's a bit short as named and I'd play Sturt ahead of Emmett as third marking tall currently. There is a lot of competition in that 22 otherwise in that midfield/connecting half forward role. I'd consider O'Meara as a Shultz option forward. Likewise I think I'd persist a bit more with Fyfe forward.

Sort of related, but our under 24's are ranked 4th in the league which seems about right when you look at those above us on the list. But equaling pleasing is that the crabs up the road are ranked 17th.

Have you seen their best 22? Average to say the least. And now the messiah has hamstring awareness(which i think is the new term for strain).

Apologies for necro-ing, but the Herald Sun has just offered up all teams best 23, and... well, you be the judge about one particular position:

B: L.Ryan, B.Cox, H.Chapman
HB: H.Young, A.Pearce, J.Clark
C: N.O’Driscoll, A.Brayshaw, J.Aish
HF: S.Sturt, L.Jackson, S.Switkowski
F: N.Fyfe, M.Taberner, M.Walters
FOL: S.Darcy, J.O’Meara, C.Serong
I/C: M.Johnson, B.Walker, M.Frederick, J.Amiss, N.Erasmus (sub)

When Treacy arranges his meeting with the Herald Sun's sports editor to ask why he hasn't been selected, do you think they'll record it for use on their social media pages?

It's beyond time to dump the sub.

Have 23 players fieldable at all times. It's just better.

I think all those calling for the omission of Corey Wagner obviously missed our last 5 or 6 games and the positive affect he had on our faster ball movement out of defence and into the forward line. His running of the ball out of defence and often through the centre of the ground was a key factor in our improved performance in those games. I really don't understand how he couldn't get a game at North Melbourne. He's better than a lot on their list.

I think there is still a school of thought that defenders shouldn't be a dead-set liability when actually defending.

If you make a list of our most dashing small defenders over our history (like Kickett, Chilsolm, First Walker, Woods, Thornton, Hayden, Duffield, Wilson, Second Walker, Clark and Young) most would hold up ok as defenders when the other team had the ball. Some, like Roger or Dale, were elite defenders as well as being attacking springboards.

If the other team has the ball and Wanger has to defend his guy one-on-one, you might as well chalk up a goal. He’s also not the most penetrating kick, so while he does take the game on, I’m still not convinced it should be a focus to get the ball into his hands.

Wanger is a useful depth player, and if Young and Chappy are going into the midfield Wanger might be needed as an attacking defender, but I think he’s behind someone like Clark and Walker on both sides of the ball. I don't think it's a coincidence that his best games were when Walker was injured. To me they are fighting for the same spot.
