There's plenty of information to be found on Ollie here as well as links to articles and a tonne of youtube content but Ollie is someone who slid a lot lower than he was expected to go even a couple of months ago.

A fair part of his slide is due to his performance at the national combine with some slower times registered but he has a huge amount of natural smarts that made him almost impossible to beat one on one. His athleticism is not anywhere near as bad as the national combine would lead you to believe with a fantastic frame to build off and incredibly clean hands both in the air and once the ball hits the ground. While he's been compared to Pearce in terms of his frame and position, I think his overhead ability and clean ball handling is more similar to Harris Andrews.

Another part of the reason for his slide from the projected teens is his lighter frame and that he will take a couple of years to put some size on to be able to compete at AFL level. In that aspect, he's more of a project but I have little doubt he's got the tools and hunger to get there. Most KPD's tend to slide down the order in any case given their position and impact on games.

I should also add because I didn't talk up how big a deal it is, he won Vic Metro's MVP award for the national championships as a key defender which is near unheard of. That's how big his influence was in not just shutting down the best key forwards in the draft but also rebounding off them and moving the ball attackingly.

This in his first year playing as a proper key defender after having spent the rest of his juniors playing as a key forward/ruckman. It's quite impressive how quickly he's adapted and excelled as further proof of his footy smarts.

I had him earmarked as a Harris Andrews type too Biz. Good to see great minds thinking alike.

I'm actually quietly very pleased with our first two picks, I think when we re-rate this draft in five years time these could look very astute. Delean was on need and a roll of the dice, but he could be effective in the right structure.
