If you don't have an injury need like having no fit ruckmen, then this MSD is to pick up any stragglers from the previous draft who were overlooked and have excelled.

Bell said the Club would have a long term view with any player they select.
“That would be our strategy (developing a player),” Bell said.
“It’s someone that we think has an AFL future, it’s not a short-term measure for us.

That's the way Freo are treating it and it's pretty much spot on. They may see 3 or 4 players worth investing more than the 6mth MSD contract minimum and if they aren't available, you bow out and hold onto the list spot. At pick 8, I expect Freo not to draft anyone unless someone falls completely through the selections.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

So if The West online is correct and North Melbourne pinch Robbie Hansen Junior and then Jack Buller slides to our Pick 8 do we pick him despite only wanting a 6 month deal and our current tall forward line firing? I've been a big fan of Bullers but bearing all that in mind I think it would be a wasted pick. Who else do we like apart from the other kid from Claremont who has been mentioned recently? Ben Clarke.
Biz, do you know anything about Clarke?

Contracts can be renegotiated for longer after drafting a player, the 6mths is just a minimum.

I'm not really interested in any of the available players, none have sparked my interest. Buller is big but I'm not a fan of his kicking and he's a bit slow. At 22 he's near on the finished project so I don't see much scope for improvement or ability to be a regular in the best 22. If we were lacking key forwards then he'd probably be amongst the best available in the WAFL as a 6mth stop gap but that's not a worry for us.

Hansen Jnr hasn't impressed me that much either. He moves smoothly and his kicking action looks great but too often kicks are poorly weighted or the wrong option. He doesn't find much of the ball and doesn't have that high end speed I would like (or rarely uses it) but he is still young having missed out in the last draft. He'd be a big gamble that I assume the club will take with a spare spot on the list. He just has to last to pick 8.

I've got nothing on Ben Clarke but stats that don't look impressive. I've never noticed him in a game but only seen 1 of his games this season. He's 20 and undersized for a key position player, hasn't seem to have done much stat wise but I have a completely uninformed opinion on him.

I don't understand the need for another mid sized forward. We just picked up Corbett and Emmett 6mths ago who can't make the side so why grab another one who hasn't done anything outstanding?

Apparently he’s a winger who kicks goals, not a medium forward!

Henry has some competition for the wing at peel.

From freo site:

DOB: 13 November 2003 (19)
POSITION: Wing
HEIGHT: 188cm
WEIGHT: 81kg
DRAFTED FROM: Box Hill Hawks

Ethan Stanley played mostly U19 football at his local club Frankston YCW last year, with just a few senior games as well.

He is a late developer and has shown enormous improvement this year.

After making the Box Hill squad for the 2023 season, Stanley has gone from strength to strength, playing six games and averaging 14 disposals and a goal.

His exciting VFL form led to selection in the Young Guns Series, and he was especially impressive in the second game against Vic Country with 15 touches and two goals.

At 188cm, Ethan is a great size and an impressive athlete, with power, speed and agility.

He can play on a wing and regularly hit the scoreboard, showing an ability to be damaging in the forward half.
