TOPIC: MRP Jaeger is cited

I thought the grading of "medium impact" was dodgy, and so did the club, but the tribunal did not. But as long as there is some consistency I'll be happy. I did notice that Matthew Johnson tackled a player at some point and opted not to dump him on the ground - so the message is getting through.

Yes consistency. I can understand the report but of the four that went before the tribunal I thought O'Meara's was the most easy to judge of the lot. All the others had the opposition players' head hit the ground which I thought they were trying to eradicate but in this one, it didn't.
So two get off and two don't. I'm buggered if I know how they come to the conclusions they do.

The tribunal decide it was medium impact, not low impact
"The Tribunal panel disagreed with that submission.

The panel said Spargo's one pinned arm, the rotation in the tackle and a "forceful, driving action" created enough danger to warrant the higher grading.

"Whilst Spargo was not injured in the incident, we consider that there was real potential to cause injury," Enbom said."
Seems enormously subjective to me. We do at least have some insight into how they think. To my mind it is a "legal interpretation that may not be intuitively obvious to those who are used to using a non legal classification system." I am guessing that player's must all be aware that the onus is now on them to avoid preventable head injuries when bumping or tackling.

How did Adam Cerra get off !
The tribunal agreed Hickey caused his own head to hit the turf.
The third Carlton player to get off this year.
"The tribunal found that momentum was generated by Hickey"
Meara's great tackle at the end had Spargo looking at the umpire hoping for a free.
At no time did his head hut the ground.
The players getting tackled are now milking this crackdown on dangerous tackles by becoming a rag doll.
I have forgot the last rule change which players used for their advantage as theres been so many.

Tragic, "Seems enormously subjective to me." says it all, subject to who has been charged.

In the O'Meara case the tribunal are behaving sensibly - looking at the potential for the action to cause harm. But then in other cases where actual harm has been caused, they decide it was ok after all. Weird.

Omeara's due for a surfing holiday anyway. Probably headed down south with Jye...

That Sicily bump that got 1 week seems worse than Johnno's to me.

This O'Meara non-incident continues to irk me. Suspended for what didn't happen but may have had a chance to if the tackle was laid with a slinging action, when it wasn't, with medium impact when there was no impact, yet one Jordan Degoey has a penalty decreased by 25% because he actually did forcefully smack into the side of a young player's head but was "genuinely sorry" about it.

Don’t try to understand the tribunal (or whatever they are called now) as there is zero precedent set from one incident to the next.

If Omeara can apply that same 25% reduction that DeGoey got, then instead of paying a fine, Omeara would actually make money out of his tackle.

Interesting to see coaches and the media pile on to make sure Butler gets off.

Not sure about that one, travelling at pace and Blakey is built like an ostrich with that head flailing about it's hard to see him not hitting it on the ground no matter how he is tackled. And they're bound to use the hair defence that Cerra used to get off when he drove Hickey's head into the ground last week.
