TOPIC: Clarkson steps aside

I’m referring to the complainants slinging mud, and it is mud until proven.

I have no like or dislike of Clarkson or Fagen, or the complainants. But if you’re going to make accusations, be prepared to stand up to communicate and defend your view.

The '"complainants" were asked to participate in a review. They participated.

They are review participants. Then what they told the reviewers was made public.

Why should they be required to be cross examined?

It's quite possible that this can all be resolved by a mediation, without the adversarial bullsh*t of a trial.

But the mediation comes with conditions that seem to require acceptance of guilt by Clarkson et al.

not nececelery.

mediation is a negotiated outcome. take each parties bargaining position and eke out a form of compromise.

He would have to accept that he knows of the people and was at some point engaged in an interaction with them. At this point, it doesn't seem like he is willing to concede that.

Media reports (who knows if they are correct) suggest that it’s a lot more than that Shane. I don’t know what to believe as we are all being manipulated by both sides. I can’t understand how the general public (incl some on DL) can form strident views without knowing the facts. Allotting guilt based on Clarkson being an arsehole may coincidentally end up being correct but it seems a stretch given what we know at this point in time.

From Fox Sport:
“Those 18 demands, as listed in the Herald Sun: Truth-telling, acknowledgment, explanation, apologies, apologise for conduct of others, public apologies, contrition, education, revised club practices and policies, AFL racism review, recommendations, compensation fund, recapitalisation of the compensation fund, claims process, reparations, joint media statement, non-disparagement agreement, termination of all legal claims.”

the missing link here is the Hawthorn Football Club.

if they shouldered as much blame as they probably should, Clarkson may be able to be convinced to shake hands

probably needs to involve Kennettt's head being served up on a silver platter though

I'm forming a view from the interview with the person conducting the review directly stating that Clarkson isn't letting them interview him.

Clarkson is publicly complaining about not being allowed to talk, while privately refusing to talk. The review dude set the record straight.

Regardless of the fairness or unfairness of the process, Clarkson has been highly disingenuous with his comments.

Clarkson isn’t the only player in this scenario that’s being disingenuous. Not wanting to be interviewed by the investigators appears to be very different to not wanting to accept 18 pre-requisites before a mediation meeting with those making accusations. On the face of it, the former seems unreasonable while the latter seems reasonable. But we’re all guessing because we are relying on leaked information from vested interests to media groups who want to sensationalise content. Not exactly a great basis for us to make conclusions.

Clarkson is complaining very publicly about not being allowed to give his side of the story, while refusing to give his side of the story when invited to. It's nothing to do with the mediation part of the process, it's nothing to do with whether he's done something or not done something inappropriate. His strategy is to not talk, so the process dies, while making it look like he really, really wanted to talk but was prevented from doing so.

It wasn't leaked information. It was a statement from the dude running the independent investigation because he wanted to communicate what was happening. And it wasn't sensational, it was very boring.

For me it's interesting how this has become a binary they're telling the truth, they're lying scenario. My experience has been that it's rare for it to be that simple, usually the stories run far deeper than "one day he said this and I felt that" and in this particular case, what's been lost, and what the Hawks were probably hoping for, was how can the club improve their processes and people to ensure that indigenous people can come to the club and not be left to feel like those who have come before.

Regardless of what happens to Clarko and the families involved, the sport and it's indigenous players will be worse off because of the way it's been thrashed out in the media, it's a real shame.

When they want to whinge and whine about the process yet refuse to give your side of the story, you know there's plenty that's being hidden.

I just feel sorry for the victims at the heart of this, the young kids who entered an AFL environment and were severely let down by their club and coaches.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.
