With the exception of clause ii) and clause iv) the booing should be good natured and half hearted. (Now that Margetts has retired.)

A load of Hawthorn supporting clowns were booing Fyfe when he came on and an assortment of our guys get booed regularly by Weagles fans.
The same bozos also booed O'Meara but that's to be expected and it's also worth noting that Lloyd Meek was treating with an amount of respect and sympathy and was not subject to any booing that I heard on Saturday

Anyone ever been to a game where there are no morons?

What are you going for with this comment?

This has happened before. Collingwood supporters making the unexpected decision to boo a black footballer, then a lot of people doing their best to play it down. The next week, some more people doing it. Then some more. All the while, there are people playing it down using a variety of reasons which seem to range from "I feel uncomfortable admitting to what this is" through to "I get it and I'm up for it".

If you’d like to catch up for a coffee, I’ll give you the long answer.

Otherwise, there are racists everywhere including all football clubs, except Collingwood may have more.

Yes, and modern society is telling them they have no right to express their racism at a sporting event, or any other event for that matter.

They may stay home and yell at the TV, or look in the mirror and despise themselves, or do whatever the hell else it is that they do when they are alone, which is probably a lot of the time.

This is hard to work through. I just don't know what to think, if only we had some sort of precedent, something similar thats happened before that we could reflect on to help shape our thinking on what's happening now.

I think we just need to keep our eyes open.......

My instinctive feeling when watching the game was one of great unease - at the fact that it was happening (and out of nowhere - Buddy hasn't copped any noticeable booing for years that I can recall) and instantly where it might go in future weeks. And FWIW, the use of the term 'justified' in my previous post was in parentheses intentionally. I get that it certain instances it forms part of the 'theatre' of the game, but I'm not much of a fan of it in general, and am not a booer myself (although this may reflect laziness than any kind of moral 'high ground'). With a home game for Sydney this week, hopefully it will be a one-off, and we won't see a domino effect as we've seen in the past.

The excuse being rolled out by Collingwood boo-ers on radio today is that it’s their right to boo because they have paid for a seat and it’s their way of getting under a players skin (they didn’t appreciate the irony of choosing that anatomical reference).
Anyone who thinks that way is a moron and we need to call it out. It’s simple. At a minimum serious, targeted and consistent booing is bullying and poor sportsmanship (I’m unsure of the gender neutral version of that word) and something that we would never want kids to be learning, or, as in this case, at it’s worst it’s racist.
Why choose Buddy? If you want to get under a players skin wouldn’t you go after their best player? Buddy is far from that nowadays. He’ll be one of the games greats but if you wanted to target a player you’d go after someone else. The fact that they chose Buddy after their well known efforts with Goodes cannot be put down to chance or ignorance. The racial coincidence is no accident. Furthermore, their lack of sensitivity in choosing Buddy only further highlights their appalling treatment of Goodes and their lack of contrition over his treatment. They clearly haven’t accepted the errors of the past. Bunch of morons.

What everyone has to be prepared to accept is that these are organised racists, deliberately targeting the highest profile black footballer in the league to send their message of hate to all the black footballers, under the cover of it just being part of the game.

We saw it happen before, it should be pretty easy just to call them out on it and stop giving Nazis the benefit of the doubt.

When you engage in the argument on the rights and wrongs of booing, they get more people joining in, who are just going along with some sort of anti establishment vibe, which provides cover to the Nazis.

What we need to be careful of is that we drive them so far underground, we pretend they don't exist. Give our disgust at them oxygen, so the fire of rage at them burns bright.

I agree with Shane these are organised bigots surrounded by idiots who fall in line. It’s disgraceful.

I almost never boo. I only boo at the time and during a specific game when an opposition player does a thug act. Only then. I don’t boo Gaff anymore , that game is done. I never booed Lobb. He chose to leave it’s a business good on him. If Melbourne supporters boo Jackson is that ok? What about the Port kid that came from North Melbourne is it ok to boo a 19 year old kid because he wants to go home. It’s a herd mentality but more hyena than sheep. Gutless bravado dressed up as barracking.

If you don’t boo there is no line to cross or excuse provided to those who do for either misplaced tribalism or racism.
