Hogan had a really rough few years just before getting back to Perth, with his Dad passing away and being diagnosed with testicular cancer. The he got home, was injured a lot in his first year home, then COVID hit and he had a rookie coach who didn't know what to do with him.
For sure Jesse didn't do himself any favours, and I don't think coming home offered the comfort he was seeking, but I reckon the coaches decided he was too big a distraction when the focus was rightly on bringing through the young kids. I understand that decision, but I think there are certain players that are worth investing that energy into, and Jesse was one of them.
It's worth asking the question, how do you reckon Freo would go if young players like Dusty, Toby Green and Dane Swan walked through the front door? Some clubs try to find the balance in setting standards for the group while making accommodations for different personalities. I don't think JLo and Bell are wired to do that.
