Interesting that Tabs was substituted out instead of Treacy yesterday. I’ve not heard about what that decision was based on but it makes for a tough week ahead for the selection committee. This article seems to cover most of the options.

Opposing teams after watching a feckless effort on Sunday will be attacking the body hard. Banfield and O'Driscoll need to be playing and on the ground at the start. Aish and Taberner are the outs.

I think a change of method and a bit of hardness is required more than wholesale changes. Forget the forward line personnel talk. Royce Hart wouldn't have scored a goal on the end of that garbage.

Treacy out. Amiss in. We've got "big". What we need is "smart".

I liked Fyfe leading up and getting possessions (well at least one) outside the 50. But whoever kicked it to him should have been streaming past for the return handball - that is what the St Kilda players were doing.

Did the experiment with Ethan Hughes work? I don't think so. Drizzy back in if he's fit. I like Hughes, but I only want him to get games because of injuries.

And I'd back Walker to come back. Wilson played well, but we need more pace, and we need to develop our future players now.

And it is heresy to say this, but I give Chapman one more week and then put him back to Peel to regain his confidence.

Tabs regularly plays half a game but is often our leading goal scorer in that half. So sub him out at half time. Sturt might like a run.

None of which addresses the midfield, which is really where we lost the game. Sigh. Please come back Mundy...

Longmuir should seize the opportunity to send a message while we've got a fit squad. Poor efforts like Sunday are not going to be tolerated.

Amiss, O'Driscoll and Sturt in for Banfield, Treacy and Tabs. Fyfe to start on the bench as the super sub.

If those boys can't get it together, Banfield, Walters and Corbett can have a run.

In a team crying out for run and flair picking both Aish and Hughes on the wings seems very conservative. Fair enough if Noddy was injured, and Henry seemed to spend a bit of time on the wing, but I'd rather move Freddie up the ground and give Sturt some time forward than have two workman-like wingers.

I think others are much higher on Treacy than I am, but he looks like a guy trying to affect the contest by hitting blokes rather than just playing footy and letting the hits come to him. He had the same number of kicks as free kicks against. He'd look better with more space and better delivery, but if it's that sort of game then surely Amiss has more upside. Also, it feels like there is too much overlap between Treacy and Fyfe.

I probably wouldn't swing the axe yet. You don't want players constantly worried they'll lose their spot for one bad game. I reckon for the most part you give this group a chance to redeem themselves.

Couldn’t agree more on the Sturt call, he played some time on the wing during preseason as well, get him and Frederick rotating through the forward line and wing and we’d look a lot more dangerous.

Amiss, Erasmus and Johnson were our top picks, they must get a game soon surely. What is the point in getting top 10 picks and not playing them. OK Henry gets a go but I think Amiss, Erasmus and Johnson need to be in there also. How do they ever get AFL experience otherwise? Home game against North Melbourne - what an opportune time.

Great call VICE.
"Losing will not be tolerated". Jimmy Johnson.
I recon the round one team should be locked in the change rooms for two nights and a day, then put a beer and a kebab at the far end of the "Cockburn" (not Freo) training facility, and let's see if any are up for selection for round 2.
# the beer is alcoholic.
# the kebab is for carnivores.

Think Fyfe should be playing CHF, at least he can push into midfield and affect the play. Playing him as deepest forward doesn't make any sense

Amiss must play FF, and left to develop there permanently - Tabs got one or two years left in him at best

Treacy marks the ball like Tabs in his early days, he drops the sitters he shoul swallow up. Backup forward only.

Agree drissi and Sturt should be ins, jury is out on banfield - I think I'd to see more of Erasmus or Johnson - their wafl numbers are always solid.

I'm surprised there isn't more talk of getting Walker in. While he can turn the ball over sometimes, he also has the knack of creating/finding seams in opposition zones. He epitomises the drive we were missing against Saints.

I'm also concerned about Aish. He's a very smart and skillful player, but his lack of pace means he has to be protected. I was at the game against Saints and the number of times they were able to isolate Hill on him on the wing was embarrasing. It was sad to see the pace mismatch when Hill got the ball. Mind you, Clarke got left behind too, despite his better pace.

Well at this stage the only definite out is Treacy who has been omitted. Banfield takes his spot?
