Not sure if this was picked up on TV or commentary but at the ground it was clear that the 3 tall forwards were under instruction not to lead as the ball came up the ground. When we held the ball up, all three remained stagnant, spread across the full forward line, 30m out, 80m from the ball.
No key forward would want to be in that situation so clearly a structural rule. I wouldn’t blame the players totally on their performance.
The other thing that baffles me is that you have a dual Brownlow media list clearance king in the forward half being manned up by a tall defender. At a stoppage in the forward 50, why wouldn’t you have him in there. As the umpire gathered the ball, Fyfe would position himself at the top of the square.
