I honestly don't know how to measure it. Top four would be wonderful, granted, but I'm thinking more goals per game and another finals campaign from any position would just about do it for me. Growth in youngsters and in leadership I am taking as a given. I'd almost go so far as to say Erasmus playing most games from round 4 to season end will be success in my eyes.

For context see below, and I will add that I think it's harsh with the amount of luck required in this industry to say lower than 4th is unsuccessful...

Yes, pretty bad. And getting progressively larger and more prominent. Carlton's jumper used to give me the irrits with their chocolate bar sponsor name so big that it spread further across than the centre line of the jumper. Freo are almost there.

Perhaps a measure of success is the number of fossil fuel + fast food brand combo badges you can fit on a jumper at once. West Coast still have us beat.

Success is a premiership. All this talk of top 4 blah blah blah, before we know it, Serong and Brayshaw will be 32 and we'll be rebuilding, again.

No one remembers the "almost" teams except to say that they squandered their talent.

Team cohesion, skills and grit. Get those three sorted and the premierships will come. In many respects this year might well be one of the best years to be going for the premiership. A bunch of clubs are rebuilding, swans are psychologically damaged after the GF, cats could fall off(although they're looking like the ones to beat), blues are facing a bunch of injuries, Fagan has got a cloud over his head at Brissy, Saints are living in a dreamworld about how good their list is. Clubs like Freo, Port, and the Giants should be going into this season thinking this could be the year of opportunity.

Lets be clear, football is about winning premierships and if thats not achieved in any year, you've failed. You're a failure.

And I assuming none of you play in the AFL. Meaning you won't win the flag, thats guaranteed. Which makes you all failures.

What does good look like? Certainly not any of you lot.

From here on in the only thing that can be called a successful year for us is a premiership.
To do this we need to be entrenched in the top four, contending for top two.
Erasmus, Johnson, Amiss, Henry, Sturt, Jackson to develop into talent that reflects that we’ve taken advantage of the years down the bottom.
The players that established themselves as starters last year continue to grow into top level AFL performers every week.
Players such as Young, Serong, Brayshaw, Darcy become the best in the comp.

Hypen, I think you need a hug…

For those of us who don’t play afl, the majority, it’s all just a fantasy, we’re euphoric when we win and devastated when we lose but only for a day (unless it’s the Slimers…) then we just get over it and move on with our lives.

AFL for women wasn’t a thing when I stared out, so I had to opt of another sport and in actual fact I’ve won 17 premierships in 26 years and two bog awards. And I’m sure there a many of us who have done far better than that!
It’s all just perspective.
