Our women's side has been dealt another massive blow with Janelle Cuthbertson leaving the club on a free trade. We will get nothing for the All Australian and one of our few remaining great players. The way our side has been gutted over the past couple years has been horrible to watch and we haven't had any access to good young talent in return for all of the quality players who have left the club.

Unfortunately, the side is looking to struggle for the foreseeable future with the ruined 2020 season where we were leagues above the rest of the competition looking like a distant memory.

Massive loss. At worst Tighe - our only other legitimate non-ruck tall - will have to go to the backline again after proving herself a reliable goal kicker. At best, the (reasonably successful) experiment with Drisco up the field will have to end. Maybe both...

I guess we know what we need for our first pick in the draft - at pick 437 or whatever it is this year.

Don't expect anything form the draft. The pool is the same as the last draft so it's basically an extension of it. We will be lucky to find anyone who is able to step up and be a decent player.

I’m not so sure that it’s a “massive blow”.
From the AFL website:
“The 32-year-old Cuthbertson endured a wretched run with collision injuries in 2022, playing four games in season six, and five in season seven due to a variety of ailments, including concussion, a broken cheekbone, a broken nose and a joint ankle/knee issue.”

Good luck to her with her new start but at 32 yrs of age and a history of physical issues, I’d like to think that we haven’t lost too much. Other clubs have lost far more valuable players through this attempt to equalise the comp.

Will agree to disagree, wtb. Most of her injuries were collision-based and flukes, so not signs of an aging body. Her style of play doesn't put big pressure on maintaining aerobic fitness, so she should be good for several more years near the top.
I reckon Port will end up very happy to have picked her up.

I don't know if it's all bad Biz, there's some great young talent coming through the lower levels 18-19, historically we should be able to secure at least some of those girls.
