So yes, I was 5th in line, rocked up after work Friday to the ARC, hoping that we might be able to queue inside, but security and management had already insisted that the line would be outside. I think there was 10-12 in line by around 7pm, maybe 20 odd by 5.30am. 2am last year scored first in line, which was me until I realised I forgot my wallet, and got back at 3am to be third. And then I still missed a 2021 retro looking for the Darcy :( (which I have since traded in).
Was pretty bloody cold out, just quietly, the crocheted Dockers throw my Mum made wasn't going to cut it and I had to grab a blanket as well.
Most of the collectors work well together, each knows and respect their focus, inside people bought me Darcy's that they had snagged, as I am trying to complete his sets each year, while I handed over other players I had come across in store. Freo didn't auction the MW home indigenous this year, and it was the only one I didn't have from his specialty jumpers auctioned this year, and I'm pretty confident that I now have it, just need to photo match a couple of marks still present after the club have washed it. Much cheaper in the LRS than auction, but need to go above and beyond to make it happen :(.
Lots of younger people coming into the scene now, which is increasing competition, but on the whole Fremantle do a pretty good job making this stuff available to those who want it. The other mob really couldn't give a stuff and have nothing like this.
