TOPIC: Toxic Masculinity

It's ok to cry men. Cry away. In fact the ladies seem to love it, wish I knew this back in the day. Would have walked straight into Gobbles and burst into tears!!! Certainly that's what I felt like doing when entering a nightclub.

Joel Selwood and big bad Tommy H, just beautiful.

Would you say Joel was Raffa or Roger? And why don't footballers hold hands any more?

I’ve always been a big fan of a little pat on the backside after a goal (but don’t try that at a nightclub Hypen)

Maybe it was better when players used to grope each other’s arses but now is not allowed anymore

grope away if everyone's happy to participate and there's no power imbalance/hazing of the youth involved...

Gobbles?

No wonder you felt like crying. The only good thing about that joint was the bar out the back, the Backstage Bar. Complete with single light and a patch of corrugated iron over the door and a gravel carpark. You wandered up to that on a rainy night and it was easy to think you'd fallen into a black and white movie. Walk inside and all doubt was removed. It was like walking onto the Hey Hey it's Saturday set.

Jesus... now I feel like crying.

Guy that was Pinocchio’s.

Gobbles was on Wellington st. Steep stairs perfect for the feral bouncers to throw errant patrons down.

After midnight they all looked the same.

Tell me, who would have wasted their time at Gobbles when they could have strutted it out at Pinocchios?

I only ever went after midnight after getting a tankful at the overflow or the raffles listening to the latest original cover band. Kids today don’t know what they are missing if they hadn’t been to a Jets gig they have t lived.

You hadn’t lived until you saw The Troggs (complete with Reg Presley) at Pinnochio’s.
I hadn’t, anyway.

Saw that gig zorro. Also lucky enough to see AC/DC (when Dave Evans was singing) at Beethovens. They had a 2 week residency in 1974 and I reckon I saw them 3 times. Ahhh, the good old days.

plenty of arse groping, no questions asked, in the Gobbles an Pinnochio's days...

Speaking of masculinity, how good Robbie Williams! Looked the part, great dancer, the voice and material he performs all comes together to form the complete package.

Hopefully Shane can refrain from posting stuff from one of his earlier gigs he recorded on his phone. Don't want my memory of yesterday clouded in anyway.

Next time, hope he does that George Michael cover.

Robbie not Shane.
