TOPIC: Not So Deep?

One of our great strengths this year was the ability to keep the squad fit and able to play, but when there were injuries we had players who were able to step up and play the role required.
After that terrible effort by Peel today I'm left questioning that depth. 80 less disposals and 9 players with less than 10 possessions.

If you go through the players there are plenty that could or maybe should be delisted, but as mentioned elsewhere we don't have many daft picks this year, so perhaps some that don't deserve to will stay.

Crowden- good, consistent year. F & B?
Wilson-also consistent and deserved his one year extension.
Erasmus & Johnson- in line for AFL games next year. Like that Erasmus kicks a few goals as well.
Worner-Showed plenty of promise and hope he gets a go next year.
Meek-Probably the best ruckman in the WAFL and understandable that he's looking elsewhere for more opportunities.
Tucker-Good WAFL player but wouldn't be missed if he left.
Sturt-big hopes for him for a long time now. Average season, but good last couple of games. Next year would be his last chance.
Colyer-done very little since going back to WAFL and lucky to get another year's contract.
Henry-I always stuck by him but his end of the season has me questioning his interest. Has dropped off as the season progressed.
Hamling-good big man cover, but not the player he was, which is understandable with the injuries he's had.
Hughes-once a regular, but now stagnant.
Treacy-interrupted season but has been disappointing since returning to the side. Four possessions today.
Western-doesn't look likely to take the next step.
Blakely-likely to be delisted.
Kuek & Benning-similar type of player, both playing reserves for Peel. Surely anyone playing reserves this time of the year, is doubtful.

Glad to hear from someone who was there Hypen.

What position was Henry playing and where in your opinion is his best? I'd really like to see him make it and to stick up all his many critics. If he's playing on a wing he's not getting a lot of it and if he's playing forward he's not kicking many goals.

Same for Treacy. Shows promise but do you reckon he can take the next step? We really need him too.

Disappointed to hear about Johnson. What left you unimpressed?

Is Worner a chance next year? Seems to get plenty of it.

Can you see Hamling getting a game next year, or only if there's an injury. Great experience, but only if Pearce or Cox were injured? Always people wanting Cox to play forward but can't see it happening.

Treacy did something today.....

He jumped for a mark, his opponent judged it better or maybe the kick favoured his opponent. Touch ball as it fell into the opponents hands. And there's Tracey about to commence his second effort with his opponent in possession of the ball three or so metres away. And then in the next frame of life there's Treacy burying the guy in a tackle.

I cannot believe how fast he got there. Maybe Stephen Michael in his prime....

Henry was ok. They marked him tight. The problem is there are ten or so players on the Peel side who are duds. You wouldn't want to be a forward.

Meek and Erasmus were the standouts. Erasmus is very tough and has heart. Will be a favourite. Johnson is a big big lad but looks a while away. Crowden is a classy footballer and Hamling looked real good.

Without forgetting that Erasmus is still 18….he’s going to be really good, Crowden is the one that deserved a chance he’s a consistent performer , if not with Freo I’m sure he’ll get another opportunity at AFL level

The AFL listed players except Wilson looked like their season ended when Freo’s did.

Well that's the thing, 391. I recall an Eagles player being subbed out of a WAFL Grand Final against West Perth cause his finger was sore.

You think Peter Bell is telling them to leave it all on the park?

Don't forget that there are only so many Freo players that are allowed to play for Peel. The rest have to play in the reserves. Kuek and Benning are victims of the Freo/Peel model rather than being bad players.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Tucker is better than a WAFL player. It is incredibly useful to have a player like him to cover for injuries. From his point of view he'd like to be in an AFL side where he gets a game most weeks. West Coast should take him...
