TOPIC: Griffin Logue - out of contract

Trizzie Griffin Logue - out of contract 1 year 8 months ago #1

Trizzie
As I understand it, Griffin Logue hasn't signed up beyond the end of the year. He has done everything the club has asked of him this year and done it really well - played back, played forward, rucked and even been dropped for a week.
If I was a player of his athletic ability I reckon I would want to play in one position and work on my craft in that position with a view to being as good as I could be in that role.

So why wouldn't he want to be off elsewhere - especially if another club is offering big bucks? With all the question marks over Lobb (who has a year or two left in him), why isn't there much concern over a possible Logue departure?

His manager is Colin Young. Do you remember the protracted and horrible negotiations each of his other clients have had over the past few years? Do you remember the rubbish he came out with for Lobb last year?

The guy makes up rumours and news stories for his clients. Other clubs had to come out and refute his words when he named them as coming to him with offers for clients.

Logue is a WA boy who's well loved at the club and has no reason to leave. Don't buy into the rubbish. He's had a contract offer put to him and his manager is holding it up to see if he can do better and put the heat on the club. He'll end up signing with us once his manager has finished his song and dance.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I really hope you are correct, because if he goes somewhere else it will add to the long list of disasterous deals this club has got wrong.

He Is easily worth the 500k , 4 year deal he is apparently chasing.

Peter bell track record with these has been far from top notch in his tenor at the club.

If they get this wrong the fan base will be extremely pissed off.

The Jessie hogan deal for starters.
Brad hill and Ed Langdon also departed ( not saying that is his fault), but under his watch.

During my tenure as a spelling Nazi, I have became aware of the four Tenors. Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, Luciano Pavarotti and Peter Bell.
As a Tenor, I think Peter Bell is an excellent general manager.

Sorry exceed, could not resist.

I hope you are right Bizkit. I for one reckon it would be a big loss if he goes.
I guess a significant part of my original query was, if Logue's role at Freo is to be used as a gap plugger why wouldn't he want to go somewhere else and settle in to a more satisfying (more or less permanent) role?

I got the idea from his podcast that he likes the idea of going into the midfield.
Did anyone else get that?

If you think Peter Bell hasn’t done a good job recruiting, you must have been away, a long way away.

Would you rather play at FB and wrestle all the best key forwards in the comp because that's the position that's being offered as a permanent role at other clubs. Or would you prefer to have the opportunity to go forward and take speccy's and kick goals? Or alternately, run through the middle and make Fatanui look second rate by jumping all over him? Settled positions are very overated and the modern player needs to be flexible. Griff is a very flexible player athletically.

He's happy to play where needed as I'm sure all players would be. The worry would be getting dropped but he's established himself in the side so much they'll swing him where ever they can to make sure he's in the 22. That shows Freo value him and his position in the side.

In reality, he hasn't shown enough in 6yrs of AFL footy and this season he's needed to step up to match the rest of the squads improvement. He's done that at times and others he's struggled. He has the potential to do a lot more than he has so far but IMO, he hasn't commanded a mega deal.

A 2yr contract to take him to free agency and then renegotiate is probably a good deal for him. Continue to prove that he can play a critical role in the side and he'll earn a bucket load for his next contract. As a WA boy with strong ties here, I can't see any way he leaves a successful young side on the rise where all his mates play. A few extra dollars on his contract wouldn't outweigh everything he has here (assuming anyone actually offers more which I seriously doubt). I enjoy watching all of the Freo podcasts and nothing he's ever said on them indicates he would ever want to leave.

Was interesting for a while there, Logue was the ruck match for Nic Nat and Darcy would do the work against the other bloke.
