Tabs probably had his worst-ever career game. Lobb ended up more useful drifting into defence when the game was over.

Melb forced us to kick down the line to contests where Gorn and May were waiting. I don't really recall them being out-marked and I won't be watching the replay.

As JL said, there just didn't seem to be great connection between the players about what they were doing. Confusion about the game-plan, not having an alternate plan to switch to, or just Melb's pressure. Probably the later.

Anyway, if we finish fifth or sixth, that would be remarkable but I reckon below expectations now and represent a significant fade-out.

Sturt averaging 1.4 goals a game in the WAFL.
The forwards haven’t been the problem. Our ball movement has been the problem. Weideman was terrible for Melbourne. Last nights conditions were never going to be conducive to tall forwards. Frits h was good on the back of plenty of good fast entries. We had less and poorer quality.

I reckon the AFL are world leaders in undermining the confidence of their own umps.

One week, you're supposed to interpret high tackles so as to punish players who duck into it. Then there's a huge media outcry and who knows what you're supposed to do.

The Melbourne zone defence dogged us all night and kept us to kicking down the line all night .JL seemingly had no answer to this. He was out-coached and needs to go to work on such scenerios quickly on the eve of finals. The players can only execute viable plans that are flexible to the situation. Melbourne were so quick to get across when we switched sides going out of defence, obviously prepared for in their game plan. Our moves were clearly predictable and dealt with accordingly. Can't classify us as a top 4 side. Out of the top 8 we have the lowest score in the "for" column - that's the big issue for our up-coming games.

That was the most disappointed I have been in the past 27 years.
Seeing Ed Langdon by himself over and over again just didn't make sense as the game went on.
Rain dissolves several of our players ability, like Superman and Kryptonite.

In Sydney and Melbourne, Freo came up against two finals-hardened sides at the business end of the season.
I don't think anyone in their wildest dreams could describe a fairly young Freo side as finals hardened. To me, this appears, along with a long season and I suspect, some burnout among some players, the reason for the fadeout we seem to be witnessing. I wish them well and look forward to a big improvement next season. Don't knock them too much,
it's a young team that has given us a good season's entertainment to date..It has certainly been a huge improvement on the past few years.

They worked harder and ran harder. That’s why they won.

As to why? I think our young side has run out of puff. Another preseason another birthday and we will be better. Flagmantle well at least top 4 mantle 2023.
