TOPIC: Andrew's Brother

Apparently Angus Brayshaw has signed a new 6 year deal and will not be a free agent at the end of the year.

While it's disappointing to miss out on Angus coming back home to play for his childhood club, it was very likely made possible by the extra cash free'd up from what Luke Jackson was set to earn in a new contract. Let's see how this plays out.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

As good as he is, I wouldn't have thought he was the type of player who would get a six year contract at his age.

Does seem a little OTT…

Still think we should try to keep Lobb.

Angus is a bonafide gun. he was runner up in the brownlow at 22 and was a dominant midfielder with a fantastic ability to win and use the ball incredibly well. That the side he plays for also has amazing players who perform the same role like Oliver and Petracca is incredibly unlucky.

The length and size of the contract would also likely be due to the serious consideration of coming back to WA and having to meet an offer somewhere near what we were offering. To stop him coming back to WA to play with his brother at his childhood club, you have to offer a lot.

Runner up in the Brownlow in 2022 eh?

Who won it that year? Must've missed the news article...

edit: thanks Bozza. Well, now don't I feel like a goose...

I see this as a good result for us. He was a "shiny object" that we don't need. We need more reinforcements at the other end of the ground first.

Well done to his manager. Once again Freo gets used as an AFL manager’s favourite stalking horse.

Angus is awesome and he’s shown he can play in almost every position on the field and I reckon he could fit in any team.

Good luck to him. Hopefully club loyalty is a trait shared by his brother (I suspect it is).

Interesting stat, polled 21 votes when he finished 3rd in 2018, the other 95 games (till the end of 2021) he has only polled 1 vote.

Hopefully Peter bell and the think tank have not over smarted there way to a disaster.

In offering potentially substandard contracts to Logue and acres, and not offering Lobb an extension with the aim of getting the whales of Angus and Jackson, we don’t lose everything!

Lobb came out last year with 2 years left on his contract and asked for a trade to the east coast. His disire to move hasn’t come from not getting a contract extension from Freo.

I think he's a valuable member of good side, and not that it makes much difference, but he was actually third in 2018. Is the Brownlow always the best indicator? Ollie Wines won it with an equal record winning total, yet I personally wouldn't think he's one of the greats. And Tim Kelly came fourth once. Imagine paying heaps for him!
Anyway, Brayshaw turns 27 in January, so I still think six years is a deal that very few players of his age get.

For reference, Andrew Brayshaw is slightly older than his brother was when he placed 3rd in the brownlow. Angus was a gun and still is. He's got fantastic game sense and ability to read the play, great size and movement, high level overhead marking, a beautiful kick and is brave as hell. He would be a massive asset to any side and has that team first mentality which is why he's been a jack of all trades at Melbourne, slotting into a wing or defence to accommodate Oliver, Petracca and Viney through the middle.

While Melbourne have done well to retain him, that effectively rules out their ability to offer Jackson a big contract. They might well know that Jackson is heading home at the end of the season.
