TOPIC: The Long Run Home

Itscrap is correct. There are also teams below us in the top 8 who also have a good run home.
On CA's prediction we can't make the top 4.
Four wins (50%) from now will put us in 5th or 6th.
However I go with the age old one week at a time.
First let's knock off PA who are a good side with vey good forwards (Dixon, Marshall and Georgiades) and skillful players like Rozee. We'll need to be a lot better than what we gave this week against Carlton.

well the Demons, Lions and Cats can't each keep winning as they all play each other once.

And the Blues have a tough run home I reckon

but yeah, some big games ahead if we are to get a home elimination final, if not a double chance...

Agree or disagree?

Wins-P.A., W.C. GWS
Should-St Kilda
Unsure/Unlikely-Syd, W.B. Melb, Rich

This was from a few weeks back. Since then we've seen that our home ground isn't perhaps the fortress we thought as many considered we would beat Port easily and Sydney. As Davo pointed out, Sydney used the same game plan that Hawthorn did, with the difference being that they could maintain it for longer and didn't miss targets with their short kicking game.

We were lucky against Port, but the second half against St Kilda was great. Although it should be noted that they have won only one of their last six games.

We should win against Richmond who are playing poorly at the moment and have some big names out while we should be close to full strength with Pearce expected back. Who knows about Lobb though? No mention.

The other thing we need is big wins to boost our percentage, which is of course a perennial issue. We should get that hopefully in the last two games as the other top sides are doing that to Slime and GWS.

It's hard being a Fremantle supporter as we all know. When we were crap, every win was an unexpected bonus, but now we've been in the top four for just about the whole season it brings about new concerns. How good are we really? Yes, we've beaten all the top sides, but that was early in the season. Our last tests against sides near us in Carlton and Sydney have resulted in 7 and 9 goals scored.

Everyone wants to be playing well at the end of the season going into the finals, so a good win against WB or Melb would show we are on track I hope.

One thing is for certain, if we are to chalk up wins we will need to learn how to defend against a chip-mark game. That's the same pathetic football that west coat used to beat us with. So frustrating to watch us fail to adapt. Our remaining opponents will be trying it on for sure. They are all now fully aware that Freo will burn them for pace when the game opens up.

For mine you cant try zone defence against it. Man on man, pressure the receiver immensely but don't give away 50 but absolutely smash the kicker of the chip pass late and hard to the body (not high and reportable). Who cares if its a relay free only 15m down the field? Ok maybe not in the forward 50 but you get the idea. Ruffle their feathers, let them instigate a melle. They want to control the tempo, don't let them.

Then play our style when we have it.

That used to be the golden rule for getting the ball back - pressure the kicker, pressure the receiver. I agree, sooner or later 50/50 turns in your favour.
