TOPIC: Peel match report

I didn't ask if he was better than Meek, but there comes a point when no player is worth what is being touted, Jackson is in that space at the dollars being bandied about. We have Darcy, who many here rate as in the top 2 rucks in the comp, and Meek is a good backup.

Which is why I said "at whatever salary we can afford to pay him". Jackson will develop into a very special player who could be a top CHF who helps in the ruck. One day he will command a salary around what is touted. If we have room in the budget and salary cap now we should grab him now. Players of his potential don't become available all that often.

Jackson isn't a replacement for Meek or back up for Darcy, he's Lobb's successor. Jackson is a 199cm ruck/forward who is incredibly agile and athletic while willing to fly for big marks and be first up to crumb the spillage. He'd fit perfectly into a pressure forward system while rotating into the ruck to give Darcy a rest when needed.

He'd cost probably our first pick at this and next years draft but when those picks are likely to be after 15, that's a steal. It'll probably take a player leaving too (Lobb/Meek) but that'd still be a win for a 20yo rising star. We have established young talent in the squad and so adding more at the draft is not necessary any more. We are beginning to challenge with plenty of development left in the side so now it the perfect time to top up. Picking up a 20yo who is far from anywhere near his high ceiling talent wise is a fantastic move and improves us for the next decade.

Ignore Sumich's figures, $700K/yr is market price for the most promising key position forward/ruck to be seen in a decade. Especially when that's a hole in our list moving forward (Lobb is 29 and while a gun, not here forever). If we get the deal done, we're laughing.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Whilst I agree on most of that Biz, Jackson is not coming home for 700k a year. He will get that a Melbourne. It will be close a million a year no doubt.

Why's that? He's coming home because he's home sick, not because we're paying him a tonne. We can probably offer more than Melbourne in any case (I don't think they can afford $700K given all their recent signings in the last year or two) and they would be silly to throw more than that at him given the rest of their stars.

We don't need to go doing silly things with Jackson's salary, it's Freo or West Coast for him and the OOFTIT's have no salary cap room without a huge clean out of players (most of which have contracts for next year). Not to mention, the OOFTIT's couldn't trade their top 2 pick this year (making our trade hand superior to theirs) and Jackson having little interest going to a basket case who will spend the next 5/6 years on the bottom of the ladder over a young side set to challenge for premierships in the same period.

There's no reason we'd need to pay Fyfe levels for Jackson. It'd be around $700K for 5 or so years with the first couple years front loaded while we have a lot of kids on less money so the last few years could sit around $4/500K.

Jacko aside, I'd be super happy to have The Slime on the bottom for 5-6 years.

Homesickness grows when the money thrown at you is much more significant then your current employer. I just think it will be much more than 700k a year.

I'd trade the Lobster and our first round pick for Jackson with an offer around $1.2mill.

Could he get in a fight with May? Might encourage him to leave Melbourne…

Lobb won't go now his missus is over here. The one I worry about is Logue. He is out of contact at seasons end and thanks to his current form he carries some trade currency, therefore he is a good chance to be used as part exchange.

I know he's not going to create a big currency, but i can't see Meek staying next year. He's better than quite a few ruckmen getting AFL games now, and deserves to be given a a more regular chance at another club.

It will be interesting to see how Jackson goes over the next month as #1 ruck for Melbourne. I had been thinking the only way we could get him was if Lobb decided to leave, however what Melbourne really need is a succession plan for Gawn, so maybe Meek would be better than Lobb for them. Trade could be our 1sts this year and next year and Meek.
We keep Lobb and Jackson acts as cover for all 3 of Darcy, Lobb and Tabs. He’d end up playing nearly every week.
