I should put my hand up and say I was a little wrong about Brayshaw. I was happy with the pick, but thought it was a slight overreach to grab a guy who we thought would stay and be a good club man. He struck me as a guy who would be a good accumulator of possessions, but not a genuine superstar. I held that view right up until this year.
What changed my mind was how much he influences games, and how much he wills himself onto the contest at important times. His goal in the last quarter against the Hawks was an example of that. He's also such a willing tackler for a bloke his size, and leads our team for tackles.
I always thought his absolute ceiling was someone like Trent Cotchin. I think he's pretty much there and shapes to go past him as a player. He's a ripper.
As for Serong, I couldn't be more pleased with his development, even though at times he looks like he's carrying an injury.
Most of all, I love them together. You might have seen their handshake thing they do, and while I think it's a bit naff, they seem to love playing with each other, and I love that about them. There seems to be an understanding of what they can achieve together which gladdens the heart.
