I get that in the face of a couple of poor wet-weather games this topic is less than crucial, but can any of the expert analysts on here explain why so many players these days, after a mark or free kick, dart backwards at least 5 metres, presumably to avoid the "stand!" call, and then stand still anyway? Why give the opposition that extra ground when, especially in wet-weather games, each metre is so hard to gain?
It's probably a simple explanation, but if that's the case, why doesn't everyone do it?
