Awesome from the Worst...

why should anyone need to be a paid up member in order to urge the corporate entity known as the Fremantle Football Club to reconsider its affiliation with one of the worst planet killing corporate entities around?

Like many of the others signing up to this protest, Dr Carmen Lawrence is a high profile community member. That's usually enough to lend a bit of weight to a publicity campaign like this.

As for agendas... I kinda like the idea of keeping the planet as a decent place to live myself.

Perhaps you don't feel that way... you're welcome to find you own planet and f**k off there in that case.

The non paid up members of this group are now classed as supporters.
Lawrence, who was the Dockers’ inaugural No. 1 ticketholder, defended her stance on Monday.
“We were clear that the open letter was from Freo members and supporters,” she said.

“We’re glad to see the letter has started an important conversation around the role of fossil fuel sponsorship of sport, and were interested that other supportive and critical opinions have been shared by members and non-members alike.
“For example, the current Premier has made his feelings known and as former Premier and former Freo No. 1 ticket holder, I think I have a relevant perspective. “We’ve had a lot of people reach out and thank us for starting the conversation, and we’re really pleased to have the club’s former doctor of 25 years, Dr Ken Withers, sign up today to support our position. “This is not a popularity contest; this is about leading and doing what’s right. Many people, especially young people, across Western Australia look up to the Fremantle Football Club and we expect them to show leadership.”

I would have gone with the headline:
"Long time federal representative of the people of Fremantle told to sit down by former late draft pick of the Sydney Swans"

I would like Carmen to pay her membership and then resign in protest. I am however surprised that a "Number 1 ticket holder" is not awarded life membership.

Yeah, but Carmen has been playing an electric guitar since the early '70s.

That was Eric, not Lawrence, Polly.

Not Lawrence Stroll, either.

How's Carmen taking credit for 'starting the conversation' around fossil fuel sponsorship in sport.

As this thread evidences, Hypen started the conversation 5 months ago thank you very much.

I'm ok with FFC seeing out the current woodside sponsorship (and diluting it with bank sponsorship in the interim) and would hope they don't renew it at any level next year.

British cycling meanwhile have last week just signed a ten year deal with Shell to much back lash. Very poor given recent attitudes on the subject.

If it was anyone other than hypen I wouldn't bother mentioning this but 11 months ago. Got no support from him at all.
