Now that we are getting a good sample size of stats for Will Brodie, I’ve had a quick squiz at the numbers for Cerra and Brodie (link below). While they are not like for like players, their numbers in 2022 are very similar, which suggests that we’ve done very well with the Cerra and Brodie trade deals - credit to the recruitment team when you look at the pick swaps:
- We lost Cerra but got Pick 6 (eventually 8 = Jye Amis) and a future third round pick.
- We used a future second and fourth round pick in return for Brodie plus picks number 19 (eventually 21 = Matthew Johnson), 61, 69.
I appreciate that it’s more complicated than the following summary as Cerra and Brodie trades are not directly linked however:
Loss - Cerra and future 2nd and 4th round picks
Gain - Amiss, Brodie, Johnson and future 3rd round.
Additionally and often overlooked is the salary cap benefit of Brodie vs Cerra. Keeping the latter would have cost us big bucks while Brodie will be a bargain ... until his next contract.
Outstanding outcome.
