Interesting to note that he holds the club record for most pressure acts in a game with one other-Banfield.

Interesting that Weeldon slipped in the question the confused old-coot-Mad Mick wasn't prepared to ask "shouldn't you trade Fyfinator?"

I was less-than-impressed with JL's response though which should have been "seriously, just f-off the lot of you...."

This whole trade Fyfe, Fyfe's going to be a distraction, Fyfe is going to mess with our midfield mix, and even 'play-Fyfe-forward' for me is laughable.

If you take Melbourne as the current archetype, and sporting dynasties, everyone knows their role and job on game day. This includes what you're not meant / allowed to do. A man's got to know his limitations

Look at the Melb mids, wingers, and utilities (HB, HF and mid) some are asked to:

- win the ball at the source and get it out to others
- be designated user of the footy going i50 and from defensive 50
- provide offensive and/or defensive run
- provide spacing / positioning / blocks or have a defensive roll at stoppages,
- and some rare players are allowed to do it all.

Fyfe has always been a contested ball winning and clearance beast. Statistically in 2022 clearances is one stat we're lagging in. I think we were 12 or 13th last week on this stat across whole season.

So at centre square and around the ground stoppages he addresses the gap in our armour.at the moment.

We dont (ordinarily) do any dump kicks out of defence at the moment, and long may this continue. But we are comfortable kicking to a contest and backing our players to mark the ball or break even. Anyone remember how Fyfe goes in a marking contest?

And if you buy in to the boffins from champion data he is ranked elite for contested possessions, Intercept possessions, Ground ball gets, Contested marks, Intercept marks, Centre clearances, Stoppage clearances.

The elephant in the room - disposal efficiency.

His career DE is higher than Petracca and Touk Miller are tacking this year. Anyone chipping them in the press? It sits just below Neale and Oliver's season to date. (Outlier is Cripps who is winning and using it better than everyone else).

Role I'd like to see him play for us. Is one Oliver plays for Dees. Win it at the coal face. More handballs than kicks, and release their better users and runners. And you know how many goals he's kicked this year? One!!!! And no one in press is calling him out over it.

Yeah, but that role is currently being performed by Will Brodie and he's doing a pretty good job at it.

Can Will match it consistently against Petracca, Cripps & Bontempelli at stoppages? Not sure, I think I'd rather Fyfe do that job.

You've got Brayshaw, Serong and Brodie starting in the centre currently. One assumes with Fyfe in the square, Brodie will drop to the interchange, which is amazing when you consider how well he's played lately.

Name Fyfe in the forward pocket, and tell him he can play wherever he reckons he needs to be. Might open up our forward line a bit.

Agree re Brodie’s current role and importance to us Davo. Reckon there will be a requests out of Victoria for a Royal commission when they realise we for Matt Johnson in that deal too.

I’d be happy to have them both start in their at times depending who we’re up against, status of game, and to throw different options at the opposition.

Centre Bounce Attendances … highest average to lowest
Brayshaw
Serong
Brodie
Mundy
(Others in 2022 - Erasmus, Aish, Tucker, Switt, Walters)

Melbourne’s top 3 are Oliver, Petr and Viney. And they’ve found roles for their Brayshaw who few years ago finished top 3 in Brownlow as an inside mid.

Imagine last quarter of Geelong game? And last game sealing clearance.

Our wingers and makeshift wingers have also been great but there is no reason Fyfe can’t also start game on one wing and seek to emulate marking, ball winning and conduit that Acres has been.

I hope the return of Fyfe doesn't spark the demise of Mundy

I can't think of a worse scenario than Mundy missing out on the 2022 GF like Nathan Jones did last year. I'd actually prefer Fyfe to miss out!

At least there's always the sub's vest.

You"ve got to be kidding
Mundy wont miss out for Fyfe nor vice versa.
Tucker would be the likely one to miss out if we are that blessed we have no injuries to any mids come finals time.
You have five basic mids with two starting on the bench. Brodie, Brayshaw, Serong, Fyfe and Mundy. Not rocket science.

It’s going to be fascinating to watch. Back in the dark years of 2018/20 , Fyfe and Mundy used to operate as a team within a team; Fyfe to Mundy (sometimes Mundy to Fyfe) was like ct Marsh b Lillee - often it was about all we had.
It’s going to be different now, and devastating. We’ll have Brodie to Brayshaw as well, Serong as the back of pack sweeper, all sorts of variations on the theme, orchestrated by Longmuir, with impervious defence behind to allow for adventurous play, a tigerish pack of forwards ahead to clamp down on the ball going forward, Darcy and Lobb providing protection and marking power around the ground, O’Driscoll and Acres sweeping down the wings.
Forget about whether Fyfe can fit in - he’s the key to an era of greatness, and it’s only a few weeks away.

DrRPG was quite right calling out Clint Weeldon for calling JLo an "Assistant Coach". Normally you would just let those go thinking 'That's an easy mistake to make...' - but it isn't, it's a pretty hard one to make actually. You would have to have a think and make a decision before saying it - how long has Justin been the Head Coach, third season? Either your football thinking is three years behind or you're a bloody dimwit - either way, it's another sad indication of the creeping inattentaveness of our ABC to actually broadcast believable substance.

Mad Mick's role of deflecting criticism away from the Slime on a weekly basis serves some kind of purpose I haven't quite worked out yet. But his dislike of Nat has been well etched into the track record of his commentary. Buddying up with The-Lights-Are-Only-Partially-On Clint and The Worst's EGirl's Nest Insight Duffers is hardly gripping the nation on a Saturday morning.
