Friday night footy is about drawing TV eyeballs and providing ad break revenue. Since 2016 no-one wanted to watch us, our games had no stakes, and we kicked among the fewest goals every year. We haven’t deserved those games.
For mine, there is no better time slot than Saturday twilight, and I don’t mind the occasional Sunday arvo game; but Shane pointed out a few years ago that our sponsorship revenue lagged behind most other clubs, and I think the lack of exposure on FTA TV is a huge part of that.
I love that the AFL is exploring the Friday double-header, and we’re a natural candidate for the second game. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t start the game just a little later and maybe involve a South Australian team if the timezone difference was too great.
