This Reddit post makes for interesting reading and goes a little way to explaining some player selections which don’t always seem to makes sense (eg Colyer’s high rating).
On the other side of things, yet again the stats show how ordinary NicNot is. He has to be the best example of show over substance, marketing value over meaningful contribution ...

Not really surprised to read that Blake Acres was the team’s worst kick last season, and the the ninth-worst kick in the competition.

I’ll be very surprised if he gets a regular game anywhere but Peel in 2022.

But you do need to take into account the type of kick. Hitting a target in the forward 50 is considerably harder than chipping the ball around in defence. Hats off to Kennedy though - I find myself constantly disappointed when he shoots for goal...and kicks it.

I was a bit surprised by Fyfe’s previous rating. He’s never been a good set shot on goal (with last year being a shocker) and he has an unusual kicking action but I guess it must have been effective around the ground at some stage.

Fyfe kicks the ball early whilst still off balance and his intended target would still have some space to make up for a slight degree of inaccuracy, speed buys you space.

It would be fascinating to see how Champion Data rate past Freo player, and how that would compare with our expectations. In the same way that Fyfe's kicking style is inelegant but has apparently been effective at time, perhaps some of our smoother kicks aren't as effective as we would expect?

Past players with beautiful actions that come to mind include Stephen Hill, Heath Black, Michael Johnson (although a bit unconventional with his ball drop), and Dion Woods.
Luke McPharlin would probably be an example of an awkward action but it seemed relatively effective)

I posted a few stat comparisons last year about Fyfe's kicking and in particular his goal kicking which showed he was well above average before last season and converting better than the vast majority of midfielders. His around the ground kicking is often fantastic and he nails passes when entering 50m.

Given the difficulty of a lot of his kicks extracted from stoppages, he's absolutely one of our best kicks. Being stripped of all confidence in front of goals last season is just what stands out to you all and is the lasting memory of his output. He didn't carry us in games and win multiple brownlows for nothing.

Those left footers had graceful actions, Walter, but with high ball drops that went with their leg speed.
If you want precision actions with balance that not much can go wrong with, it is Roger Hayden and Paul Duffield any day of the week.
