I promised myself I wasn't going to blather about this day, being the virtue signalling bleeding heart I am, gets boring. Instead I would refer you to the statement the Brisbane Lions have made and then steer you to compare it to the statement Carlton have made. Regarding Australia Day.

Whilst I support Brisbane's position. I wanted to call out their integrity more than anything. In comparison of these two statements its clear only one is in fact making a statement.

I'm sure every club will have had the, "yeah but we don't want to offend our cashed up boomers who buy our merchandise"..... internal battle.

All the clubs will make statements today, interesting to see if the suits win or the people who know right from wrong win at each club.

Plain to see who won at Carlton and Brisbane.

Working towards a vision? You either have a vision or position, or you don't.
Striving towards equality? Are you for equality, or just the PC vibe of the thing?

It reeks of over workshopping. It, and most of the others, are painfully obvious virtue signalling designed to manoeuvre around an issue unscathed. Build a wide fence so you can all fit on it.

For a club steeped in a culture of indigenous players, some of the modern greats, it's pathetic.

Brisbane and Port Adelaide showed the way.

The final paragraph of the Freo statement was what needed expanding. The rest of it was unnecessary and can go.

Carlton's words were just absolute rubbish and worse than saying nothing at all.

What do we want? "Open dialogue with key stakeholders that recognizes that whilst we have so much to be proud of this is a day of mourning for our nations first people and true land owners".

When do we want it? "We will continue open dialogue and look forward to a time when all stakeholders feel included in celebrating whats great about our nation."

It was all crap.

Check out Brisbane's. They made a statement. I don't care who since 1994 has been throwing a shrimp on the barbie.

Brisbane had the courage of their convictions. We stood back, which everything else aside, is not really very Fremantle.

They reckon they want to bring the club back to Fremantle, they need to embrace what that means. And it means sticking your neck out for stuff like this, not standing back and hiding in the crowd.
