Stay in the 50arc it’s hard to kick goals chasing cheap kicks and uncontested marks on the wing.

He's not chasing cheap kicks. If you bothered to watch the game, he leads up to the boundary for the release kick out of the backline. He is rarely beaten in the air. And then runs back to goals to give an option in the forward line.

He's got a couple of weaknesses but he's got some great attributes too.

The bloke takes a damn good contested mark. Being up the wing is to get us out of jail. Observationally, He wouldn't need to be there if the midfield and half backers were sending the ball forward into the 50. Maybe we should be looking there first. Speaking of his contested marking, for a guy that has that as an elite stat, his hands are very small compared to someone like Fyfe. I also would rather he was allowed to stay in the 50m arc and we were hitting him lace out.

Interestingly, Rnds 7,8&9 were all games we lost and Lobb was playing, it seems (purely from these numbers) that when we have both talls playing forward, Tabs is the one we send up the ground, I had presumed it was the other way around and he was being asked to do more when Lobb was not playing.
Given those numbers, it’s not surprising he broke down in Rnd 10.
I was surprised that Lobb and Tabs only played 7 games together this year, and 2 of them Tabs went down in. For the record we won 4 and lost 3 of those 7.

I think it's a testament to Tabs that he can run that far on game day, and yet he has still managed to become reasonably reliable in his set shots for goal.

I'm pretty comfortable with Tabs getting on his bike, because he's obviously an elite runner, and it would be a waste for him to park himself in the 50 because he's not that great on a lead. I'd rather keep that space for someone like Treacy, or if he can stay on the park Sturt.

The main issue seems to be how we use Tabs and Lobb together. Given they are both so mobile for guys their size, and cover so much ground, it's amazing to me how often they seem to be in the same place. Few teams can cover them both, yet we seem to do such a poor job of exploiting mismatches.

If we moved TABS to the backline, then he wouldn't need to run so far. All he'd need is to run into the forward line to kick the goals. Instead of running into the backline from the forward line to find the ball to get it back to the forward line where he then will kick the goals.
